Hi, i'm planning to take the hop on hop off bus tour on the first 2 days of or visit to Budapest in September. There are a few companies doing this i.e. Giraffe, Mr.Nils and big bus tour..Which one is highly recommended?thanks.

We attempted to do a HOHO in Budapest on our first visit there, we bought the tickets at our hotel, I think it was a Courtyard by Marriott. Stops were nearby but we were unable to get on several buses due to crowds already on them, we ended up walking and finally picked up the HOHO several stops away. IMHO it was a big waste of time due to crowds and traffic, wouldn't waste my time or $. We found Budapest easy enough to get around via the metro and on foot. 2nd & 3 rd visits we didn't bother with them either. The first visit was in September and the city was quite crowded. Sorry, don't mean to dissuade you but wanted to pass along my opinion. Budapest is a great place, much to see and do. Enjoy your visit.

Agreed. Very easy to walk around. Was only there 4 days but saw lots via foot:)

Buy a transport pass instead. Plenty of buses and trams as well as the metro. See: http://www.bkk.hu/en/prices/

We took the green buses, not sure which company it was but enjoyed it. We were there late September, so it wasn't overly crowded. We usually go around on the buses on day 1, then strategically use the bus as our mode of transportation on day 2 just as we would a taxi... We stopped at Széchenyi Thermal Bath and stayed a couple hours, then hopped back on the bus after we were done and onto our next stop.

We also enjoyed the trip up the hill where you have a magnificent view over the parliament and the city... and the hoho bus ticket also lets you cruise the Danube for free (1 hr).

I know a lot of people don't like these, but have have in a few cities (Paris, Vienna, Budapest, Copenhagen, Brussels) and have never been disappointed.
