Buckingham Palace

Just wondering how "worth it" it is to visit Buckingham Palace (the inside)? I'll be in London on Thursday, and the timing would be good since BP is open during the summer, but it is as nice as some of the other palaces?

It's wonderful! Definitely worth it.

JoeTro: I'm actually surprised you haven't visited the Palace before. Yes, it is definitely "worth" it. The interiors are not that old or even very historic - but they are gloriously over the top and the artwork is remarkable. Plus you actually see the State Rooms one has seen on telly at things like investitures, state dinners, etc.

The state rooms are fantastic. You can get a combo ticket for state rooms and I believe the mews and the portrait gallery, which I have visited but thought were a bit underwhelming. Definitely go to the state rooms, though.

If you like Blenheim, Buckingham Palace is still like a Russian kleptocrat's mansion on steroids.

If you have a sensible view of Blenheim, Buckingham Palace is further evidence that the Hanoverians had the crassest taste of any dynasty in our history.

Typical nouveau riche tat, the whole thing. Only go there if you're invited: I certainly wouldn't waste good money going to see it.

Thanks for the advice. Hopefully I'll make it and report back. I've seen the mews and portrait gallery, and I enjoyed those.

Don't buy too many "corgi pencil cases" in the gift shop!I did but then I own a corgi!
Seriously, its definitely worth it.

Joe- I guess you didn't see my Qs for you on a few older threads. I'm leaving for London this afternoon for the week. Did you end up going to the BBC Prom? And what about the Impressionist by the Sea exhibit?

I bought a ticket for the BBC Prom concert Sept 7 and going to the Royal Academy on Sept 8.

I did not go to Proms, but I loved the Impressionism exhibit. Have a good time.
