Bucharest or Sofia?

Which is more worth a visit?

I am starting my trip in Istanbul, exploring western Turkish coast, Bulgaria (Plodviv, Veliko Tarnovo, Bankso, Varna, Ruse, Nessabar, Sozopol, and several smaller villages...and then i am ending and flying out of either Sofia or Bucharest.

Which is more appealing in your opinion, and for what reason? I have read mixed reviews about both.

Thanks!

I recently visited both cities, and i can say i was surprised by both.

Bucharest is the most cosmpolitan city in Eastern Europe (Eastern, not including Central Europe here) in my opinion. Its a confusing concrete jungle, but has a very interesting feel to it, and some wonderful back streets and parks great for exploring. I also think that the often maligned Peoples Palace and all of the communist architecture in that part of the city is quite impressive...somewhat oppressive, but still impressive and unique.

Sofia is probably one of the strangest cities i have visisted. I was there for 2 days, and within that short time my opinion of the city changed completely, from one of a grey communist era city, to one of the must fun cities i have ever visited. The locals are amazingly friendly and if you follow the local crowds you will find beautiful little spots in the city you would never have imagined existed. It is not a city with alot of specific things to see (besides the cathedral) it is just a city to get lost in, without getting worried about ACTUALLY getting lost becasue the center is a very managable size.

I really enjoyed both, but if i had to pick one, i would go with Sofia.
