Brussels Hotel Near Centrale Train Station

Can anyone suggest a decent hotel (no amenities needed) within a short walking distance of the Centrale train station? We are all in our 60's and hauling our luggage a long distance is not on the agenda. We will be stopping just one night to show someone in our party the Grand Place (the rest of us have spent quite a bit of time in Brussels so we are OK with the one night stop). We would like something under $150 per night.

Le Meridien is right across the street from Central Station. It is also a short walk to Grand Place.

Brussel hotels tend to be expensive during the week, but most offer excellent discounted rates on weekends.

We've always stayed at Le Meridien across from Centraal {though there was a huge construction going on last July....might be done by now}. If that's a bit more than your budget, the Ibis Hotel, also a short walk from Centraal, has rooms starting from $115 - $188 depending on whether you stay on a weekend or a weeknight.

We stayed at the Best Western a short block from the station and also Grand Place.

Wheeled luggage to the station. Unfortunately the elevator in the station wasn't working and had to walk the stairs.

Just FYI, Central Station is in the "Upper town". It goes downhill from there to Grand Place. Any hotel you stay at, will require you to drag your suitcases UPhill back to Central Station.

Le Meridien is the shortest distance from Central Station, hence, the shortest uphill you'll have to drag your suitcases.

Stayed at LeMeridien last month and noticed there was an underground passage from the hotel to Centraal station. The underground passage is easily accessible from the Ibis Hotel also via a shopping area under the LeMeridien [albeit you have to exit the Ibis to reach the shopping area].

Not sure where the access point is in the train station though since did not feel the need to use the underground passage. The short walk uphill was not a problem even with luggage [there was four of us - all in our 60's].

We also experienced the road construction in front of the LeMeridien mentioned by JoyC but it was suppose to be complete in September.
