Brugge - Prinsenhof or Pandhotel
 

Would anyone know if these are comparable "hotels"? I think they are both supposed to be nice, but is there much difference between them? Also, is one closer to the rail station and/or the center of town?

Any comments pro or con would be appreciated.

Both are official 4-class hotels of the cosy romantic kind, yes they are comparable in that way.

Closer to the rail station? both are in the center of town. you would take a bus to and fro the city center in any case if you come by train (a 12-15 minutes walk, or a cab.
Closer to the center of town? both are in the historical center of town. both are on opposite sites of the market square but from one hotel to the other, it would take a 5 minutes walk... the prinsenhof is in a very quiet and charming zone and not in the very "center of the center" of the touristic activities, hardly 2 minutes away of it. the pandhotel is in the "center of the center" tourist zone, and therefore maybe a trifle more "animated", allthough not in terms of noise... Traffic noise is approximately absent in front of both hotels.

Whichever hotel you choose, there will be no substantial difference in the quality of service.

Being a brugian, as a tourist, I would be very happy with both hotels that close to the sights. For the after dinner walk back to the hotel, there are plenty of restaurants all over town and there is no security problem.

When I visited Brugge, I didn't stay right on the market square and I'm glad I didn't, simply because the square is the center of all the commercial tourist activity, and much of the charm of Brugge is to step back in time and enjoy this well-preserved city in a quiet way.

The train station is outside the historic center of Brugge and requires a good 30 minute walk or more. I took a taxi to my hotel, which was about 6 euros as I recally. But i actually did walk to the train station when I left Brugge, doing some sightseeing along the way at a lovely convent, etc., But I never carry much luggage.
