Brugge
 

We are going to Belgium in June and will be renting a car. We will either drive right into Brugge and stay there for the first part of our week or stay in Oostkamp and commute into Brugge. Does anyone have any suggestion as to which would be better. <BR>Also, our travel agent has recommended a hotel in Brugge called De Pauw on St. Gilliskerkhof. Has anyone stayed there? <BR>I have read the postings for Brugge and have looked at a couple of other hotels that some of you have recommended.

Pauline, <BR>You may have seen my posting regarding the Hotel Ter Duinen, a lovely canal side, three star hotel, which I favor because it has safe, free, on street parking and is located close to Brugge's ring canal in the northeast part of town. De Pauw, an eight room, two star hotel is located on a short street, Sint-Gilliskerkhof, adjacent to St. Gillis' church and a predominantly residential area. It is not canal side.Not too sure you'll find convenient parking, free or otherwise. You'll also encounter some interesting navigating to find the street. The hotel's location is only a short walk from city center.

Yes we stayed there in Oct 99.It was very nice not fancy room was rather small but that is standard in Europe and the owner couldnt have been nicer she made brkfast to order and she held our bags after we checked out the 2nd day to we could explore. It is a little hard to find she e-mailed me directions and we took the bus from train station. if I didnt have her directions we wouldnt have found it. Brugge was nice but it was cold and rainy when we were there. Lots of shopping and great beer, these are very important to me in my travels. enjoy any ques feel free to e-mail me we also stayed in Bruseels and Amsterdam.

I stayed at Hotel Jacobs close to De Pauw. We also had a car and had no problem finding free street parking. We could walk into town in 10 minutes. We liked staying in a residential part of town -- quiet, yet convenient. <BR>http://www.pcug.co.uk/~benecom/hotels/bruges/jacobs/ <BR>

Thanks all for replies. Diane, I was wondering what the driving was like to get into Brugge. Was it very difficult to find your hotel? <BR>I will look up the web site you mentioned.

Pauline, <BR>Happily the De Pauw is easily accessible if, as I assume, you'll be driving from Brussels. As you approach the Brugge old town from Route E40, you'll be on Baron Ruzettelaan. Continue to its end and turn right onto Buiten Gentpoortvest just before the first canal you'll encounter. Continue on this ring road to the third bridge and turn left, crossing over the canal. Just over the bridge the road doglegs to the right and then turns sharply left. It changes its name from Sasplein to Wulpenstraat to Langerei. Continue on Langerei (a canal will be on your left) to Annuntiatenstraat, the fourth street opening on your right. Turn right and continue to the first street on your left (Collaert Mansionstraat). Turn there; Sint Gilliskerk is the first street on your right. Wulpenstraatountentf from
