Bruges/Brugge- Hotels

Going to Bruges and can not find anyone with hotel recommendations - any suggestions? Price not necessarily an issue.

Dear Eric,

Brugge is wonderful. I was there in 1990 and stayed at a fairly nice hotel called "Kowloon" right on the main square. The people were so nice and it wasn't too expensive. I can probably look up the phone number for you or perhaps you could find it on the Internet. I also have a friend who lives in Brussels and travels to Brugge who could probably recommend other hotels. Feel free to email me. By the way, are you in Great Valley/Malvern area? I'm in King of Prussia, PA.

Eric - in April of '97 we stayed at the "T'Bourgognsche Cruyce" (don't hold me to the spelling) which is just across the canal from the more famous and more expensive Duc de Bourgogne which has the same ownership. We enjoyed the place a lot - it was centrally located, small, very good breakfast, friendly staff. You should be able to find it in the major guides. Ask for a room overlooking the canal. Since we saved on the room cost over the Duc de Bourgogne, we treated ourselves to dinner one night at the latter - unbelievably good and worth every last franc.

Brugge was wonderful! After long searches on the internet we finally went with a friend's suggestion and stayed at the Ter Duinnen. It's easy to get to by car, on a canal, a few blocks from the main square. Operated by a husband/wife who are very friendly and accomodating. The dining room is beautiful and breakfast is superb. They can recommend local restaurants as well. Ask for a room on the canal -- it's worth the few extra $$. You also can e-mail your reservation. Have fun!

Eric - as a follow-up to my message of 1-2-98, the dining room of "T'Bourgognsche Cruyce" was reviewed in the most recent Conde Nast Traveler magazine. Check it out.
