bronte tours - Best of British tours

I found a tour and I wondered if anyone heard of it.

www.bobtours.co.uk

Thanks

Never heard of them - doesn't necessarily mean anything one way or the other. But I do notice the he misspells one of his main tours a few times (It ain't Herriott)

Appears to be a one-man operation.

minkie Mar 31st, 2010 04:28 AM

Good point...I was hoping to find a tour - not so much for the convenience as the commentary...oh well...

alihutch Mar 31st, 2010 04:45 AM

Do
esn't mean he tours aren't any good, but he can't spell whet either...

alihutch Mar 31st, 2010 04:45 AM

oops try again.....

Nice! I will keep looking...

Hi
I've used this guide recently - excellent service, very knowledgable (I can't spell that well either but as this isn't an english test - it didn't really bother me!!)
Well worth the money
will definitely recommend and use again if I am back in Yorkshire area

ruprecht Apr 19th, 2010 07:15 AM

hey I've also used this guy - great tour.
Just a small point to alihutch - he did spell whet correctly - check your dictionary!!
my advice Minkie is to try him out - he certainly knows his stuff

janisj Apr 19th, 2010 09:59 AM

Note to Minkie: Both smurfboy1 and rupecht registered today 14 minutes apart to post these 'glowing' reviews. Quite a coincidence doncha' think? ;)

Lifeman Apr 19th, 2010 10:17 AM

His phone number is in the Wakefield area, not exactly in the centre of Bronte country (over hyped IMHO). He looks a little manic with his teacup, but that doesn't mean he's not reliable, just trying to earn a butty as we say in the North (and probably elsewhere too!).

One drawback is that his website doesn't give an address which is a bit awkward if you want to chase a problem. He's not listed under his own name with a landline or under his company's name.

If he is legit, then he needs to be a little more open.

smurfboy1 Apr 20th, 2010 04:19 AM

Note to janisj - it must be awful to be that suspicious - I have met this guy and used his service - my comments are honest
No idea who ruprecht is
no idea why I am wasting my time answering this either
minkie - make up your own mind and don't listen to anyone else - including me

Morgana Apr 20th, 2010 07:25 AM

It's not just Janis that is, or will be, 'that suspicious', lol.
Minkie - Grammatical errors aside, I'd be more concerned about the way the website is riddled with factual errors that I wouldn't expect to see made by an 'historian' who appears to pride himself on his 'local knowledge' - an example being that Anne Bronte is NOT buried in Haworth but in Scarborough.

ruprecht Apr 26th, 2010 10:04 AM

I dont usually get involved in petty squables! however, I will make an exception in this case! unless you people have used the service how do you feel qualified to comment? It seems to me that you all need to get out more! Riddled with factual and grammatical errors? Please Morgana! Since when has a Yank been credible enough to comment on English History & Language?! I rest my case!

janisj Apr 26th, 2010 10:24 AM

"<i>Since when has a Yank been credible enough to comment on English History & Language?! I rest my case!</i>"

Uh - ruprecht -- maybe you need hang around Fodors a bit before you rant. Morgana lives in Yorkshire -- putz!

You and Smurfboy are looking more and more like shills for this guy (or ARE this guy)

Morgana Apr 26th, 2010 10:50 AM

Oooooer, I've never been mistaken for a 'Yank' before! Yes, I do indeed live in Yorkshire, but I'd have spotted the errors and mistakes wherever I lived! It really does make the website look very unprofessional.

wellididntknowthat Apr 26th, 2010 12:22 PM

Busted!! LOL!

Lifeman Apr 26th, 2010 11:50 PM

You see, that's the problem with people who come on here to promote something. They end up with a size 10 in their mouth, especially when they do it in a not very intelligent way.

I live nearer to Haworth than this idiot in Wakefield, who has now blown any chance of anyone ever thinking that they might just try him.

janisj, I think it's pretty clear that however much he protests his identity, using any screen name, he obviously protests too much!

minkie May 1st, 2010 08:36 AM

Well thankfully the Brontes are dear to my heart and I will do my own investigation and tour -

MargrietVanderBanck May 1st, 2010 03:37 PM

How interesting—the errors have been corrected (though "whet" with an "h" would have been correct with "your appetite"). The site could still do with a thorough copy edit though. The capitalization is bizarre, there are too many incomplete and run-on sentences & the occasional use of an ampersand for no apparent reason is distracting. There are also a few typos.

These aren't hanging offences, but they make the website look very unprofessional.

janisj May 1st, 2010 04:59 PM

ruprecht/smurfboy will probably thank you for the copy edit and get to work fixing things . . . .
