This is almost becoming a nightmare. Very few places have elevators, views and availability. Then they want room service on top of that. It really is a pain to even go a short distance on crutches.

They have been on business with a group of people in Europe for almost 2 weeks and are exhausted. Just want to relax.

Albergo Metropole definitely could only give us one night because a group is coming in Tuesday. Right now we're checking out Lugano and Stresa.

I don't understand WHY they did not take their computer on this trip. I am texting to their cell phone in Copenhagen.

They may just have to stay in Milan until the flight home.

Hershey,

As others have suggested, Stresa is a wonderful small town on Lake Maggiore. The lakeside promenande is broad and flat and lined with a few very nice hotels.

Try contacting the Hotel Astoria. It's a large. spotlessly clean hotel with lots of rooms with balconies that face the lake directly. Breakfast is included in the room rate. There are two elevators on the ground floor.

We stayed there last May, and will make a visit this May also. Our lake front room was huge with a newly-renovated bathroom.

Mario Mariani is the owner of the hotel, and Franco is the head concierge. This is the hotel's e-mail address: [email protected] AND another e-mail address: [email protected].

Good luck.

Also try Hotel La Palma in Stresa, one of the lakefront properties. We stayed there a few years ago, and loved it. The hotel has two elevators, a lovely bar in the lobby, and a very good restaurant. I'm pretty sure that the hotel offers room service.

Best of luck to your daughter and boyfriend!

Hotel Astoria and La Palma are located next door to each other.

La Palma is a lovely hotel...while we were in the Astoria, we watched a bride and groom get married on the grounds of the hotel. It was a perfect day, and the reception was held outside.

Thanks to everyone for your educated advice. Due to the circumstances and the short time period to find a room, many of these good choices were not available or we just could not get the reservation set up in time. That was the case. especially with Stressa.

I ended up getting them a room at the Walter Au Lac Hotel in Lugano. It supposedly had great views of the lake, an elevator and was kind of in their price range. I made them a reservation for the Star Bus from Malpensa to Lugano.

All I can tell you is what their text message just read, "Amazing. You picked a perfect spot. We love it! Thanks again."

I think you did very well for them under the circumstances. The Walter has had good reviews here.

You may now eat a chocolate Easter egg as reward. The calories will not be counted.

Great, glad they're enjoying themselves. Lugano is beautiful in the spring.
