I'm so glad I won't be meeting you on the road to someplace exotic and beautiful. That just made my day.

I am asking also, what are you doing on this site? And why are you spending money on a computer? Why do you have a car? You don't need a house etc.

Vhy?
Beacuse there are lots of other people on the world, who are wonderful - and lots of other cultures that may be more interesting, (probably) or not, than ours - but if you never look - how will you ever know?

Help.

I promised someone I would do some research into the Open, and have taken weeks to get the info. I now have it and can't find a record of who wanted it. Please post or e-mail, and I promise a (relatively) speedy reply

Sheila,
I am not the person who requested the
information on the Open but would
appreciate any thing you could provide.
My husband I will be going this year
for the first time.
Thanks so much.

Sheila Apr 9th, 2000 03:47 AM

I'll send it when I get home but it was specific to a particular set of questions. (I found the contact, incidentally) There is a very good web site.

If there's anything specific I can help with, let me know
Anne Apr 9th, 2000 06:23 AM

Hi B

Not sure what info you want -- but try opengolf.com It's the official website of the Open. I called there directly (at 5 am est one morning!) and bought tickets for each of the 4 days. I had them within 10 days.

BTW I'm the person Sheila was searching for -- must have been the week when my computer was down! She's a great help with any posts re Scotland!!

Anne

Sheila Apr 9th, 2000 02:57 PM

This is what I sent to Ann

The open is at St Andrews from 16th-23rd July. You will get ticket details
which are far too complicated to type out in full on www.opengolf.com

Fife is full- you won't be able to get accommodation anywhere reasonable
nearby. The big problem after that is that because it is stuck away out on
the east coast, the roads in in the morning are dreadful.

I was going to recommend and package within a nice hotel some distance
away which would include transport. Should you be rash enough to do it by
public transport, the best method is to get into Leuchars on the train and
use the shuttle bus.

One package is available through www.golfandfishsco.co.uk.

Others to try would include www.newton-house.co.uk

www.smoothhound.co.uk/hotels/lomond1.html
www.goldenstones.co.uk
www.golfhotel.co.uk

I had a specific recommendation for a hotel called the Craig Darroch in
Pitlochry but I don't have a contact point. Let me know if I can get you
any further info.
Thanks for all the information. We will
be staying on the Q2 for the open and
would like to spen d some days touring
scotland rather than going to th e open.
Should or could we rent a car and do
day trips when we do no t want to go to
the open for the day. Help!!
Thanks so much/

Sheila May 10th, 2000 03:09 PM

Well, you can. The question we can't answer is should you?

I was reading the ad for this at the weekend, and I understand the deal includes transfers but it didn't say how- boat or helicopter. If boat, get your hire company to leave a car for you where-ever you are docking; if helicopter, get a car in St Andrews.

What will govern your decision?

b ward May 11th, 2000 04:12 PM

Sheila,

Thanks for your response. I understand
the boat will be docked somewhere near
the tournament. I just do not know how
far it would be to travel to see more
sights in Scotland and if there are any
train connections nearby or car rentals?
Thanks for any suggestions.
