completed the survey. I've been to the museum MANY times and never knew there was a Private Members Room.

Done. :)

Thanks, MissPrism!

I did the survey, but it seemed a little odd to me.

The survery isn't complete. The price choices should include free. I would definitely be interested in more info on the museum - but certainly don't want to pay for it.

The museum, guides, some tours, maps, etc are already free. The survey was about if/how much folks would be willing to pay to become members w/ special privileges/perks.

There is plenty for free . . .

done.

done.

You're missing the point. There are people who can't answer the survey the way they want - they're forced to say no - since they can;t say yes, but for free. there may be a huge number of people wanting more info for free - some of whom might eventually become some sort of long-distance member. This survey doesn't capture that option - and so doesn;t provide complete information.

When a survey is poorly designed it often misses important information.

Bowsprit Aug 9th, 2011 05:32 PM

The survey is geared toward people willing to pay for a service or item. It is not asking if one would accept complimentary services.

janisj Aug 9th, 2011 06:31 PM

nytraveler: Your point doesn't make sense. The Museum is FREE, how can they do more than that? Do you expect free food, free items from the gift shop? The survey may not be perfect -- but it is not about asking what else they should give away for free. They have more than enough freeloaders - they want more paying members.

I often wonder why the BM doesn't charge a suggested or recommended admission fee as does the Metropolitan in NYC.

historytraveler Aug 9th, 2011 08:11 PM

Not sure how you charge a "suggested or recommended fee". They do have a large pot in the lobby for donations.

janisj Aug 9th, 2011 08:55 PM

The museum used to charge for admission (as did the V&A, Imperial War, etc etc.) It has only been free since 2001.

There is a bit of a movement to reestablish entrance fees.

Bowsprit Aug 10th, 2011 04:31 AM

When you visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there is a suggested entry fee. I think it's $20.00. Visitors may pay less than this. You simply pay what you'd like. I don't know if anyone's not paid anything at all but I suppose it could happen.

Bowsprit Aug 10th, 2011 04:34 AM

correction: The full recommended entry fee for adults to the Met is $25.00 for adults and $17.00 for seniors.

PatrickLondon Aug 10th, 2011 07:02 AM

The BM and the National Gallery never introduced fees when the others were cajoled/compelled into doing so.
