British Museum/National Gallery

Are these the same thing or are there two different museums? If so, which one has the pictures made of tiny mosaic pieces?

These are two totally different museums in London. The National Gallery is an art museum and the British Museum is more an antiquities museum. Both are excellent and well worth the time, but you are more likely to find the mosaics at the British Museum.

Just to confuse the issue, there is also the Gilbert Collection at Somerset House, which does include some mosaic pictures and furniture alongside the gold and silverware for which it is probably better known. However, you have to pay to get in, whereas the BM is free!

And just to confuse the issue even more - both the Museum of London and the Victoria & Albert also have mosaics (as do several other places)

For the pictures made of tiny mosaics, I think that the Gilbert Collection is the best bet.
Somerset House is well worth seeing in its own right

Yes, it is the Gilbert Collection at the Sommeset that I was looking for---the micromosaics! THANK YOU! My daughter will be in London in a few weeks and I want her to get me some postcards from this exhibit.

If you're into mosaic's, you can check out some more modern ones at the Blackfriar's Pub (www.pubs.com/blacec4.htm).
