My husband and I are planning a two-week trip leaving out of London to Ireland, Wales, and Scotland. How warm/cool does it get in June and are there any must-sees in Dublin, Belfast, and Ediburgh?

I have a question for you, and this only applies if you plan to drive. Do you intend to take the car on the ferry to Ireland? If so, be advised this is not always allowed. My aunt and uncle tried this once, only to find that they had to turn in the car, walk onto the ferry, (luggage and all) then pick up a new car in Ireland. They had to repeat this process coming back into the UK. I don't know if this rule still exists, but be sure to ask the rental car company.

There's obviously no rule stopping British cars being driven in Ireland: that would be absurd.

But insurance on a car hired in Britain may not necessarily apply in Ireland (on either side of the border). It IS worth checking with your hire company that you've got the right cover.

Flanneruk, I am only repeating what I was told, that they were not allowed to take the car onto the ferry going into Ireland. I don't know the reason, it could be Avis' rule, but this is what happened so it's worth asking if it would be a problem.

I never said that British cars cannot be taken into Ireland, I was speaking specifically of rental cars. Unless the OP is British, I assume she will be renting a car if this is to be a driving trip.

P_M is quite right that hire cars cannot usually be taken out of mainland UK unless a premium has been paid beforehand. Before hiring you should check the "Driving Restrictions" clauses as they can have some strange restrictions i.e Hertz vehicles can be driven in/out of the Isle of Wight, Orkney and Isle of Mull but cannot be driven in/out of the Isle of Man, Guernsey or Jersey. As for Ireland the North is usually okay but you cannot take the car into the Republic unless agreement and a hefty surcharge have been paid.
