Does anyone know where I can buy a British Heritage pass on-line? VisitBritain.com and BritRail don't process orders--they only forward your name to local vendors. I live in a city with only two identified BritRail reps, and neither has responded to either my direct e-mails or the BritRail and VisitBritain websites. We leave for London in mid-July, and want to get the web-only sale price which is advertised on these websites. Thanks!

Both britrail.net and raileurope.com have shopping carts to purchase the special deal for the GBHP. Am I missing something? Could it be a browser problem?

We booked a deal for the passes last year on britrail. My recollection is that after you've given all the pertinent info and paid on line, you're given a voucher to print out and present when you get to London.

Are you in the States? You can buy it from by phone BritRail at their toll free number - I have done so many times. Or as obxgirl says - you can buy it on-line (I have also done it this way).

Your other options include buying it a Heathrow or GLasgow airports (but not at Gatwick or Edinburgh), or at some of the covered properties.

If you can, it is better to buy it ahead of time because you get the catalog describing the hundreds of places it covers.

The pass is available at Edinburgh Airport. I bought one there, and the website of the ridiculously named VisitBritain (formerly the British Tourist Authority) says it's still sold there. They have a list of where to buy it in Britain -- you need to show a non-British passport:

If you have access to AAA travel personnel - they can get the Heritage pass and several other passes. We have ordered the Heritage Pass and our Visitor Travelpasses for London thru our AAA agent.

There is no reason to buy the pass ahead of time. You can buy it at the first place you visit. I would imagine you are paying a premium to buy it in advance. Otherwise, why would they do it? You can access British Heritage Pass on the internet and it will tell you which properties it covers. Your pass starts with the first site you visit.

nancy: no especially this year they are cheaper to buy ahead of time. The prices are set in £ and $ each Dec. Since then the £ has risen dramatically against the $ so for a 2003 GBHP, they are actually less expensive in the States.

KT: That is good information. When did you buy the GBHP at Edinburgh airport? 3 years ago they were still not offerd at Edinburgh or Gatwick but were at GLA and LHR.

I bought ours in the Tourist Authority in downtown London. They're available lotsa places... seems to me I had to show a passport to prove I was a foreigner. (Who knows, I could have been faking the "lack of accent", eh?)
