Josser - the difference is that the rest of the world does not speak french as she is spoken in Guadalupe, but much of it speaks the english of New York or Texas.

Back to the OP's post. Newborns here in Australia start out in a bassinet before progressing to a cot. I would have thought English babies do the same.

Here is NYC it is very different. Babies start with a nanny and then immediately go to Harvard.

Oh, of course I remember Goodluck Jonathan saying only the other day, "Yawll, dis trouble with Boko Haram is gittin' woise and woise".

Millions of people in Africa, India, the West Indies etc. speak their own versions of English.
