Britain In April- will the weather be okay?
 

We are looking at travelling around England, Scotland and Wales in April. We are concerned that many natural sights in Scotland and Wales (the Isle of Skye, Snowdonia, etc) will not have good weather when we visit. What should we expect? or, Should we choose another destination to travel to in April? Thnaks.

I was in Scotland in March/April several years ago and the weather was pretty bleak (chilly, damp), but it's not as if the weather there is reliably nice any other time of year anyway. The scenery was beautiful. Plus, at that time of year the advantages are fewer crowds (my husband and I explored many ruined castles alone)and countless lambs scampering across the fields -- a wonderful sight!

Nobody knows.
It will certainly not be hot, but it could be beautifully sunny or showery.
If it rains, it will probably not rain all day.
However, the landscape will be lush and green and there will be masses of flowers, both wild and cultivated.
Spring in Britain, like the New England Fall is something that everyone should see.

We usually pass through London in April en route to other destinations. The temperature has varied from 8 degrees C (about 46 F) to 23 degrees C (about 73 F) and various temperatures in between. If you go in April, expect anything, because you'll probably get it!

"The daffodils come before the swallows dare...." April is a great time and I'll be there for a week beginning on the 19th..can't wait to see it once again. Hope you enjoy your trip as much as I am certain I will my own.

The one thing you can predict about our weather in UK is that it will be unpredictable. Most probably bright and showery with good visibility, drier in the east than the west. Later in the month will tend to be more settled. Altogether a very good time to come as things will be fresh and green, and most places open but quiet (but some places busy at Easter).

I was in Wales, England and Scotland last year starting on 2nd April. We had a bit of everything but the most memorable weather was snow on the day we took out our narrowboat on the Monmouthshire and Brecon canal in Wales. As Australians we found this..er..interesting. But the countryside was just lovely. I had never before seen primroses and there were sheets of bluebells in the fields. If you are used to Florida as we are to Australian weather, it may well be cold but I would do it again in a heartbeat.

If anyone knows this more than 3/4 days in advance they would be making a fortune on the market.

All I can say is we were in Scotland in July - and it was about 45, windy and raining (it had been over 80 when we left London).

So I don;t think it matters that much except for the depths of winter - have a sweater, a jacket and an umbie and you'll be ready for anything.

You cannot predcict good (or bad) weather at any time in the UK.

April can be cold, rainy, possibly snowy, warm, clear, gorgeous, dreadful -- or even all of the above.

The exact same can be said of July (except for the snow bit) and November.

April is a terrific time to visit the UK - all the Spring flowers and bulbs are usually in bloom. and the wild bluebells are amazing.
