Well, there's a pointlessly rude addition to an otherwise interesting thread, but then again, consider the source.

BigRuss, good information, I'm taking notes for one of our many planned trips--some of which may actually take place, you know?!

Nothing rude in my reply. Like everyone else here just answering cmcfong's question.

Since the scotch would have been bought at a distillery per the OP, would need to come home in checked luggage (or be shipped somehow).

Pretty sure WOW does Signatory and Cadenheads, Russ.

Maybe my math is off, but I think you pay about as much for a liter at the Duty Free as you'd pay for .75 l in NY.

<<Pretty sure WOW does Signatory and Cadenheads, Russ.>>

If so, its online search function bites. I've not been to one for awhile and didn't remember any. I checked the website on signatory and cadenhead and came up with "suggestions" for various distillery own bottlings.

P.S. (to the OP and NewbE, esp.) - the Cadenheads tend to have premium pricing compared to distillery bottlings of the same age and equivalent potency; Signatory does not - its prices are more competitive. And if you want to sample, Royal Mile Whiskies has Old Malt Cask preview sizes - 20 cl sizes of various full bottle (70 cl to 1L) offerings.

Two responses: (1) not necessarily - depends upon the offering. I know that JW Blue at the last duty free shops we visited commanded a far worse price than what I could get online in the US if I wanted to drop the money to do so; (2) that's NY, which has high taxes, high cost of living and high prices (that said, drinkupny.com prices tend to be very good, Park Avenue Liquor prices do not but the offerings are numerous), the OP lives in the Carolinas. Online retailers will ship to NY.
