Bringing Food into the Netherlands
I'm leaving Tues evening to visit my daughter and son in law in the Netherlands. She has asked me to bring her some fudge from her favorite fudge shop. Am I going to have problems at customs? I have never had problems sending her stuff, but that goes through military mail. I just read the following on a website:
"Foodstuffs As from 1 January 2003, it is prohibited to import food of animal origin, such as meat, fish and dairy products. Exceptions include: - food for your own consumption (up to 1 kilogram) that does not contain meat or dairy products" Obviously, fudge contains a dairy product, milk. |
Anybody?

Fudge is definitely not a problem.
If you get stopped going thru customs, it will be an anomaly. Coming back to the U.S., soft cheese is a NO-NO -- hard cheese such as gouda/edam is fine. I used to bring back those 10 lb wheels of gouda -- great stuff. Fudge, chocolate, and the like will be no problem. ((b)) |
Absolutely take the fudge.
