Not an issue for us, as my love does not eat breakfast, and I'm content with a piece of toast at home.

If I do eat breakfast at a hotel I tend to pig out, and ruin my appetite for lunch. I would much prefer to look forward to a mid day feast of local delicacies, rather than waste my appetite on standard bland breakfast fare.

I agree that 17 euro for breakfast is extortionate, I often pay a good bit less than that for lunch. If breakfast is not included (which in northern Europe and especially the UK it often is), and my room has a mini bar, I pick up OJ and yoghurt and eat in my room, thus getting a faster start in the day. Often there is some kind of kettle, in which case I also pick up some kind of instant coffee - obviously not as good as the real thing, but better than nothing, and these days I mostly drink espresso, not brewed, in any case.

Thank you all for your help. $18 for breakfast is aboit fhe average that I would pay at home, in a cafe - with coffee. For a hotel breakfast, at home, I would expect to pay $20-$30. We are on the east coast of the United States in a very expensive area.

It sounds like a European cafe may feel like a bargain for me.
