Breakfast near Hotel Du Louvre
 

Just booked a last second trip to Paris for my daughter's birthday - a surprise. Staying at the Hotel Du Louvre for the first time. I've read that while the location is wonderful, there's not much close-by in terms of cafes, etc. for breakfast as it's not really a "neighbourhood".

Any suggestions for some good breakfast places/cafes really close to the hotel? I've read that the hotel breakfast is okay, but rather expensive so it may be more interesting and practical to check out local places.

Well there is the Cafe Marly, in the Louvre with a splendid view of the courtyard (and yes you pay for this view). You do not have to enter the Louvre to go the cafe btw.

Cafe Marly would be a spectacular start to the day, especially on the terrace! However, if you don't want to pay for the view (you'll still pay for location in that area, however as you're in the 1e) you can try Cafe Ruc just across the road (rue de Rohan, runs off Avenue de l'Opera)) from your hotel. You'll see the red awning from the hotel entrance, not sure if they open for breakfast, but sure they'll have coffee, croissants and perhaps an omlette or two. A step to the right of your hotel is Cafe de la Comedie, or just across the way and down a little in the square wrapping around the Comedie Francaise/Palais Royal you'll find Cafe Le Nemours 9look for the columns) which is a lovely little cafe with indoor and outdoor seating and is open for breakfast.

If you take a 5-10min stroll down rue du Rivoli along the outside of the Louvre or along Rue St Honore (there are 3 cafes just a block down from your hotel) and away from the Place de la Concorde direction, you'll find a clutch of little places along there. Or you can just indulge in all things chocolate (and pastry, and macaroon) at the Maison du Chocolat branch under the Louvre. There are many other food choices in the food court area under the Carrousel du Louvre, but I believe they first open at 9am (the Maison at 10am).
