Breakfast/lunch recommendations in Amsterdam near Centraal Station

Leaving on Sunday for safari in Tanzania. On the way home we have a 7 hr layover in AMS from 7:15am - 2:55pm. Planning on going into city just to walk around and have some good food. Would probably like a breakfasty snack when we arrive in the city and then a good solid lunch. I know that area is super touristy and not great for good food but would appreciate any recommendations that we could walk to. Also, what time do they generally start serving lunch? Thanks!

Does it have to be within walking distance of the station? How about a tram ride?

You can also zip over to the Leidseplein area on bus #197 from the airport for 4eu each way. Runs 5 times/hour. You pay cash to the driver, no need for a chipped card.

How about this? traditional breakfast and a boat tour in one. Great way to get an overview of city.

We had lunch at La Place and were just stunned by all the fresh food, prepared in front of you/on site.

Go to Hotel V Nes Plain and have something from the flammkuchen

Thanks for the recommendations. I suppose we could do a short tram ride. Just trying to keep it as simple as possible.

Exit Centraal Station, turn left and walk over to Amsterdam's incredible library, where you can eat lunch at La Place on the top floor, while enjoying a view over Amsterdam.

If your flight out is at 14.55 you need to be back at Schiphol by 13.00 at the latest. Gates close 40 minutes before departure for U.S flights and security is at the gate and strict.
Take Robyn's advice, and visit the library. You can have a good brunch there.

Security check at Schiphol was different. You had free rein of the place until you got to the actual gate of the departure. Then, there were a number of checks including an interview with security
