Breakfast in Positano

Does anyone have a recommendation for breakfast, ideally with a view, in Positano and/or Praiano? We are booked to stay in a very nice looking hotel called Casa Angelina in Praiano but I didn't realise that the non-inclusive breakfast is €21 EACH per day!! One of the reviews on Tripadvisor says that there are hardly any cafés in Praiano (could this be why they hold their guests hostage for breakfast?) so I was thinking we could go to Positano for our morning coffee. I don't have a huge appetite in the morning anyway so happy for any suggestions of cafés where I can have a coffee and a cornetto and look at the view...

Thank you!

Hi

If your hotel room has a view I suggest making your own breakfast, especially if you're a light eater. Pack a coffee plunger, coffee and cups in your bag. Buy supplies there. Save heaps of euros and use the view you paid for :) Otherwise you could try Da Costantino - http://www.dacostantino.it. I think you need to email them to see if they do breakfast. Looking at their website I don't think they do but give it a try.

Praiano has to have some bars (cafes) where the locals take their coffee and brioche. Every little town in Italy has at least one bar that serves up coffee and brioches in the mornings. It may not have a view, but at least your cappuccino will cost you 1.10 euro and your brioche .75 - 1.00 euro...which will be a lot cheaper than the 21 euro your hotel is charging. Actually in tourist areas, you'll probably pay 3 euro for cappuccino and 1-2 euro for the brioche. I live near Florence and am always floored how much more expensive things are there than in the little town I live.

P.S. That's shocking that a hotel in Italy is charging for breakfast...and 21 euro for it!!!! Holy moley!!

Hi E,

IIRC, there is at least 1 coffee shop in Praiano on the main street.

There are also 2 groceries where you could get your morning goodies.

Also, if you stay at www.lesirene.com, a very nice breakfast is included.

There is a nice little coffee shop at the top of the hill in Positano, and they have an adequate little bakery as well. Small tables and chairs are provided.

Yes Amy, I was completely shocked too. I just hadn't bothered to look into it until I got closer to our departure date. So that's €48 for the 2 of us PER DAY. There is NO WAY we are paying that. No breakfast in the world is worth that, even though I'm assured it is very nice.

Thanks for the hotel tip, Ira. Unfortunately, we're committed to this place and are now in the cancellation penalty phase.

I ask the question because my husband and I like to vacation in Oia, Santorini a lot and we have a favorite café overlooking the caldera and we just love sitting there and looking at the activity on the water. I was hoping for a similar place in Praiano but if not, happy to go to Positano (think the hotel lays on a courtesy bus).

Da Costantino looks amazing - will put that on my list definitely. Thanks everyone!!

Da Costantino - as recommended by WorldinaB - is one of my favourite places in Positano. But it's a restaurant, not a bar - so I'm sure it doesn't do breakfast.

Any bar will do you a cappuccino & cornetti - I'm sure you'll find one down by the beach.

Le Fioriere is a "bar" that serves breakfst. Bar Del Sole is where the locals have coffee and brioche it is so pleasant to sit on their little porch.

or you can stroll over to any of these hotels and see if they serve breakfast to the public, Hotel Bella Vista, Hotel Onda Verde or Open Gate.
