Breakfast in Avignon

We are staying at Hotel d'Europe in Avignon. Do you know of any great places to have breakfast nearby and/or any wonderful boulangeries in the area?

Thank you
Harold

There is a boulangerie Cassonne Camille at 36, rue de la Grande Fusterie near that hotel, kind of west of where the palace is. I don't think you are going to find tons of boulangeries in that location, it's not exactly residential as I recall. So I dont' think you are going to have a lot of choices of boulangeries near that hotel.

My wife and I were in Avignon this past October and stayed at the Hotel d’ Europe as well. I hope you find, as we did, that it is a wonderful hotel with excellent staff. We had booked one of their less expensive rooms but upon arrival we were upgraded to a nicer room which had triple the square footage of our hotel room in Paris.
Having just come from Paris we didn’t find nearly the selection of boulangeries and patisseries that we found there. But who are we trying to kid here. We may have had to walk a little bit more to find one as they weren’t seemingly on every corner as in Paris, but strolling through the narrow and meandering streets of Avignon was a wonderful way to work up an appetite. And now back in the US we wish we had just one quality boulangerie in our Northern California home town.
I can provide you with a little bit of information about breakfast in the area. I wouldn't classify any of my recommendations as great as the French don't seem to emphasize the breakfast meal like Americans do. Several mornings we just ordered coffee in the room with was accompanied by a small croissant and another pastry. The coffee was excellent and was served in a carafe and really could serve two. As I recall, it was very reasonably priced. We ate breakfast at three locations in Avignon. The first is just across the street. As you exit the front gate of the hotel directly across the street is a small square (Place Crillon) with 4 restaurants that have extensive outdoor seating in the square. One morning we had some delicious dessert crepes for breakfast at the small cafe which as you face away from the hotel would be the second restaurant from the left. I am sorry but I don’t recall the name. It is a fairly small cafe as there are only about six to eight tables outside and three or four tables inside.
Additionally, we found two patisseries that we enjoyed just a short walk from the hotel. Turn left as you exit Hotel d’ Europe onto Place Crillon, go one block and turn right at Rue Joseph Vernet. Walk approximately two blocks and at the first intersection to the left is Rue Saint-Agricol. At this intersection is a nice patisserie. Continue down Rue Saint-Agricol approximately 3 blocks and on the corner of Rue Saint-Agricol and Rue de la Republique is a lager patisserie with a greater selection. I hope this helps.
