Breakfast in Amsterdam

Does anyone have suggestions for a cafe that serves breakfast (not a brown coffee shop) near the Renaissance Hotel? We would like to avoid paying over 20 euros per person for breakfast at the hotel.

Hi Sandys.
Turn left out of the hotel entrance and left again at the first corner.
follow the road, towards the railway station. You will be passing a few cafe's and a bakery that serve breakfast.
Casey.

Thanks Casey. That sounds easy enough. Since this will be our first trip to Amsterdam, we are very unfamiliar with the area and what is available.

sandys, there will be lots of places that serve 'uitsmijter'; fried eggs with ham on bread.

Thanks Tulips. (I don't think that I'll be able to pronounce that though!)

No worries...the wonderful people of Amsterdam are genuinely proud of their English!

Whew!

not necessarily for breakfast but you must go to the Pancake House--on Prisengraht a few blocks down from the Anne Frank House. We usually eat the big dutch pancakes for dinner but they are fabulous(and I don't remember them being that expensive). Yum

Quite frankly, I think Amsterdammers in particular, are genuinely proud of their OWN language-they speak near perfect English only so the non-Dutch can make themselves understood in their country!

You'll have no problems, Sandys, finding any number of inexpensive bakery/coffee shops outside your hotel to pick up breakfast items-places with genuine local flavor.

sandy, it's pronounced (more or less) oat-smiter. If you had one for breakfast, it would set you up for the day.
