Breakfast ideas in the 6th?
Staying at Hotel D'Aubbuson next week. Would like breakfast-type pastries and coffee near the hotel for our first morning in Paris. I'm having difficulty determinging the scale of my map. Is Poilane walking distance? Do they actually have a cafe to sit down?

After, should we walk to the Eiffle Tower or will this require metro? If walk, recommended route? Thank you.

This site has been posted about 54 times on this forum, but it always draws in new fans:

http://wfd.pagesjaunes.fr/pj.cgi?

when you type in the street address and/or the name of the establishment, yu can see up/down pics of the site plus pics of the street where is located. Use the arrows to get ideas of what the neighborhood you are staying in looks like. The english version is down/unavailable at this time (for a while now?), but hey, might as well start giving your best French a go!! Have a wonderful time in Paris!!

Any of the cafes on St.Germain will serve you a wonderful breakfast. All of the baked goods will be fresh.

danna
I'm not usually a recommender of hotel breakfasts, but I have to say that when I stayed at the d'Aubusson the breakfast was a little pricey but the croissants, pastries and coffee were excellent.
For an additional charge there are other buffet items.
Of course you might want to try some cafes, just thought I'd mention it.
|
Danna,
I'm checking into the Hotel D'Aubusson next Thursday. Leave me a note at the desk if you want to meet for breakfast.
|
Sue:

How nice of you to ask! I wouldn't dare impose my husband's company on anyone...he is an impossible grouch and is making me miserable complaining how he doesn't want to go to Paris. And this, our anniversary trip!

We are also checking in on Thursday, our plane lands at 7:40 am, I suppose I will have to ask them to hold our bags until check-in time. Did you reconfirm your room? I read on this board that sometimes D'Aubbuson overbooks.

There is a nice cafe on the corner of rue Jacob and I think, rue Bonapart.Anyway,it is on the corner and they make great coffee and pastries and you can get a great omelet anytime of the day.Rue de Buci has a few good bakeries/pattiseries where you can get coffee and something sooo good! We have picked up things and taken them back to our hotel in the afternoons for a tea time snack.
Poilane is a little distance for breakfast..no there is no cafe,it is just a bakery, they don't even have that much room for the lines that form.
The Eiffel Tower is a far walk, we have done it but you will want a few hours!Metro is the best for that.
Then there is the Cafe Deux Magots and others all along the Blvd St Germain which is only a few blocks from your hotel.

danna,
We stayed near the d'Aubusson on the rue Jacab last month and took our breakfasts at 2 places:

Cafe Bonaparte right below Les Deux Magots (and thus less exp.) at the lower edge of the Place St. Germain. Just had a grand creme, croissant and terrific o.j. at the counter rather than sitting on the terrace, except on Palm Sunday morning when we sat outside with our papers and watched the spectacle across the way at the Eglise St. Germain. The welcome there was warm, and Cafe Bonaparte draws far fewer tourists.

We also had a tartine and cafe creme at the quintessentially Parisian landmark cafe La Palette on the rue de Seine, in the midst of the galleries. It's a little museum in and of itself, filled with Picassos, Miros, etc. After our first visit, upon returning, the owner greeted us each morning with a handshake-we felt like "regulars" from the quartier.

Also, around the corner on the rue de Buci in the midst of the Buci market, there's the wonderful patisserie, Jean Pierre Carton. The owner of the "Fish la Boissonerie" sent us there-it's where he buys the bread for his restaurant., and its also recommended by Patricia Wells. The chocolate barquettes are incredibly rich!

Across the street from Carton is a cafe called Atlas. They get their bread and croissants from Carton every day but Monday when Carton is closed. Delicious.

There's a great patisserie-type cafe on rue de Buci called Paul. I think it's inside seating only, but really good bakery stuff.
