Bratislava Airport to Train Station
I will be arriving in Bratislava at 6:00 via SkyEurope in late May and need to catch a train to Budapest. What is the best way to get to the train station? I had planned on buying train tickets when I arrive. Will there be any problem with doing this. From what I have read it will be cheaper. Are there any on-line schedules I can look at just to get familiar with the train schedules? Thanks.

Plannning to go to Slovakia for the first time June 08 and have done a lot of hunting around. Suggest you type in "bratislava airport bus station" into Google and see what come up.
Only replying cos seems nobody else has. |
Bus 61 runs 3-5/hr mon-fri; 2-4/hr sat sun
20 mins to main train station -Hlavna station airport is 6 miles away from trains |
Thanks for the info. Looks like I will take bus 61. This may be a stupid question but is the euro accepted in Bratislava as well as the Koruny. I'd hate to have to use an ATM after my flight arrives to withdraw such little money as for bus fare. Thanks.

I was in Bratislava for a day a year ago
Seems euros were accepted in supermarkets and some stores though the koruna or whatever is certainly the currency broadly used But all over Bratislava were change kioks where you could change a few dollars - i changed a $20 bill and the rate was good with few exchange charges I assume the same may be true at the airport but on the bus? not perhaps if it's an authentically local bus and not an airbus per say. I'd say in a push the driver or conductor would take euros esp if you just gave them 5 euros for a fare that probably costs a buck in local currency But perhaps you buy tickets from a kiosk before boarding the bus as is common in europe and it may take euros the same way |
Thanks for the info. PalenQ. I might be in the airport too early for the exchange booths to be open but I will try the bus ticket kiosk and euros if they aren't. Thanks again

thanks for the thanks
I have never been in Brat airport nor taken the bus - the bus info comes from Thomas Cook Continental Timetable of trains and airport connections In Brat it self there were exchange kiosks literally everywhere. Too bad not all european countries are adopting the euro but soon here i suspect |
I won't knock taking the bus from the airport -- my wife does it all the time. It may be difficult to catch a bus later in the evening (after 9:30 PM). Here's a public transport link (with good maps):
http://www.imhd.sk/ba/index.php?w=2e...28&lang=en Having said that: On my own (non-Slovak) arrival at the main train station, it was easy to just catch a cab for the four-mile ride to the in-laws' place. The airport isn't much further, and I don't think the fare will be much over $15. They're voting soon on whether to convert to Euros next year, but I think it's just a formality. |
That site I just mentioned -- If you click through, you will find your specific answer at this link:
http://www.imhd.sk/ba/index.php?w=38...3A00#spojenie1 ...which is: Line 61 leaves the airport every 12 minutes for the main train station. Direct, no transfers. Fare is 18 SKK (less than $1). Can't beat that... |
metlc - any idea whether the OP can get a few euros for the bus in the airport quickly - exchange kiosk
or would this bus take euros would a taxi take euros? |
