Branson DeCou Lantern Slides Online
I don't know if any are interested, but the Univ. of California-Santa Cruz has it's collection of Branson DeCou Lantern Slides on display. The collection of about 10,000 of these hand-colored slides came to the University through the suggestion of Ansel Adams. Over 1,400 of the slides relating to Italy have been digitized and are now available online, as well as others.
These are so beautiful and interesting... http://library.ucsc.edu/vrc/decou-dream-pictures dave |
These slides are definitely "EYE CANDY"!!!!!!!!!! I could spend hours looking at the slides. The views of the countryside are especially beautiful. The ones that show the locals are priceless!!!! Seeing Italy as it was over 90 years ago is a sight to behold. I can't wait to actually see it myself. A must see for all!!!!!!!

Thank you, Dave...these are special...c.1938...in the thirties, the only Americans/Canadians who were able to enjoye these scenes were among the most wealthy (during the depression??)and got to Italy by transatlantic cruising. Hard to think in those terms now. Thanks again..

I thought I'd pop this one back to the top, since these are amazing slides and gives us all an idea of how the old travel lecture tours were done long before Travel Channel existed.
