Boutique hotel Vienna in September
 

Can someone recommend a boutique hotel in Vienna? We prefer not to be right in the middle of things but still able to soak up the atmosphere of old Vienna. As long as we're by public transportation, that's fine. We prefer something quiet with some ambience (no hotel chains) and since we'll be going in early September, we will probably need air conditioning. We don't need a bar, but coffee is a must! Can any of you experts out there give us your opinion? Thanks so much for your help.

I stayed at Boutique Hotel Altstadt with my son and his wife in August, it is located in Vienna’s seventh district.
It’s a kind of boho neighbourhood, easy walking distance to the MuseumsQuartier, City Hall, the Hapsburg Palace complex. There is a tram stop nearby. Plenty of nearby restaurants and hotel staff happy to make recommendations.
We loved this hotel, definitely not anything like a chain hotel, lots of interesting art everywhere, great breakfast, friendly young staff, afternoon cake and tea/coffee complimentary each afternoon, rooftop deck with honesty bar. I had room 18 which was large and comfy, had Nespresso machine, nice big windows which opened, it was quiet.
I’d stay here again.

Both rooms were Double Rooms Medium- I had room 18, my son and daughter in law had room 6.

If you’re looking for alternatives to staying in the Innere Stadt, Vienna’s historic city center, consider these three pleasant neighborhoods that are still close by:
Neubau is the district known for its museums – it’s home to the MuseumsQuartier – and its art galleries. It’s also very lively with trendy cafés and restaurants.
Landstrasseis a quiet, elegant neighborhood with classic architecture and leafy streets. Great public transport connections make it super easy to reach the old town.
Mariahilf is known for Mariahilfer Strasse, Vienna’s main shopping street. It combines lively city energy with quiet side streets full of restaurants and small hotels. It’s a great choice if you want to walk to the old town while staying in a less touristy area. Some friends of mine stayed at the Boutiquehotel Das Tyrol, and they loved it. They enjoyed the friendly staff, the comfortable rooms, the stylish, cozy decor, and the delicious breakfast.

PJ94 and Blackmons Hotel Altstadt is in Neubau-great area.
PJ94 I stayed one night at Hotel Das Tyrol and it was lovely. We spent a weekend at one of the owners other hotels, Knappenhof, in the mountains and it was spectacular, the best food we had on our entire trip.

Another great hotel. My head is spinning from researching hotels, but I'll dig deeper into these two and see what's available. I really like the idea of staying in one of these neighborhoods. Thanks so much for your help.

Blackmons if I had to choose between Hotel Altstadt and Das Tyrol it would be Hotel Altstadt no question. I liked the area around Hotel Altstadt better.
Das Tyrol is yes, on Mariahilfer Strasse but I took quite a long walk up that street and it was pretty boring I felt, the shops were pretty bog standard pedestrian, nothing very interesting.
The hotel itself is very nice but Altstadt is more charming, different. Das Tyrol is probably a shorter walk to the MuseumsQuartier but even so I'd choose Hotel Altstadt if I had to choose between the two.

Thanks, I think you're right. I've been looking at all the rooms - so unique. It really looks like something special. And I think the one you stayed in is one of the prettiest so once I have my dates figured out, I'm going to request that one.
