My wife and I will be in France in mid September. Does anyone have suggestions for B&Bs in the Cote de Nuits area that would include table d^hotes? Also should we take the train from Paris and get a car? We want to do some hiking and have been told that there are trails in the area through the vineyards

Taking the train from Paris (Gare de Lyon) to Dijon is much the quickest way to get to Dijon. I don't know about hiking in the vineyards (I doubt that most winemakers would want people walking through their vines), but for good hiking you could head up to the Morvan, a huge regional park that's great for hikes and other outdoor activities.

thanks "Underhill", the idea for the hikes came from a book that specifically spoke towards trails that go through some of the vineyards. It sounded like a fantastic opportunity especially if the harvest is in full swing. I am not sure if it will be in mid September. Any input on Bed and Breakfasts...gites?

There's a poster here, CoCoDijon, who rents a flat in Dijon, if that would interest you. For B&Bs, just Google on chambres d'hotes Dijon and see what comes up.

If the wine harvest, the "vendange," is in full swing, there will be workers swarming through the vineyards--probably not the best time to try to hike there. You might consider instead taking a nice long walk along the Burgundy canal.

Tables d'hôtes are not a common thing round here, there are so many good restaurants.
check www.cotedor-tourisme.com to find an accommodation. if you enter chambre d'hôte on the left hand side and "Cotes/hautes cotes de Nuits" you'll find 4 pages of them (all around Nuits).
Isadore204 used Wayfarers to hike in the vineyards.

Thank you so much for the reply and for the help. I will look into the link you included. Our friends have told us that to really experience France Bourgogne is a must, and Tables d^houtes were a great way to learn more about the area and experience more of the culture. We have also been told to go to restaurants and enjoy Bourgogne that way.
