Boulevard Saint Germain from start to finish
 

Numerous people here probably know that Boulevard Saint Germain is not at all my favorite street in Paris, but since it is one of the main streets in the city, I felt that I should do a photo report about it. It does have an interesting characteristic in that it both starts and finishes at the Seine and is the only street in Paris to do this, since it is relatively straight and the Seine is not.

I started at the Palais Bourbon (Assemblée Nationale) and finished at the Institut du Monde Arabe, which is actually the opposite of the numbering system, because I wanted to start in the center of the city and work my way out.

This us a great pictorial report. My favorite times in Paris were when we just picked a direction or arr. at random and walked about looking at the architecture and places. I miss Paris and need to return soon.

This is a report I never thought I would see, or at least not from you, kerouac!

We just stayed right off BSG on rue des Bernardin over Christmas, and enjoyed what is left of the Place Maubert market. I love the Danton statue and that corner around the cinema. (I always enjoy the Tennessee sign and bar across the street - as it's my home state).

I despise the Champs Elysee but I do love BSG and enjoyed the stroll with you! Merci!

Thanks! Another thought for my "return to Paris" notes.

The Marché St-Germain still has a food market inside, although it's hard to tell from the street. A good butcher, a fish seller, a charcuterie, a cheese seller and several green grocers, along with some small restaurants/traiteurs. Much better choice than rue de Buci, which is now nearly entirely tourist oriented with few real food providers.

Just realized that I passed this report on to several friends who have accompanied us on trips to this area of Paris--without thanking you yet again for another wonderful photo essay of our favorite city. This one is especially special for us becuase we stay just off the Blvd. St. Germain and frequent so many of the places you've pictured. Wonderful.

Once again a great shoot that lets me think I'm in Paris and not in the God Foresaken northern Michigan completely snowed under (AS I am often accused of being!).

Kerouac - Thanks for another good photo-report. I haven't spent much time in the 6th since spending a week on the rue Jacob in the 1980s.

denisea - I spotted the Tennessee sign too. Is it a bar? a cafe? I'm also a Tennessean, from Memphis, so it caught my eye. Haven't lived in TN for many, many years, but now have a son in Nashville so get back there more often.

I see that Tennessee place every time I am there. I think it's a bar, but I admit I have never been in. (Grew up on Knoxville and lived in Nashville for years!)

We always stay on the rue de Bourgogne, so lots of familiar sights.

I bought a Snowy and a Tintin in that first shop for our son the first time DH and I went to Paris, they are still up in his room even though he is now 20.

On our next trip to Paris we really should try a different area to stay in but we love the 7th.
