Bouillon Racine--Anyone Dined There?

I read somewhere about this restaurant on rue Racine in the 6th and wondered if anyone knows about it? It has mixed reviews on TA, but then, don't they all.

Merci!

I ate there twice in May once alone and once with my family once they arrived. It was good. I recommend it and would go again. It is a beautiful building, and worth the trip.

Hi grandmere,

We did eat there in March of this year...decor was very pretty...food just so-so.....

grandmere Sep 30th, 2009 05:08 AM

Uh oh! Traviata, guess you would not return or recommend?

Someone asked about this recently and there were several responses, including mine. I ate dinner there and liked it a lot, but it was several years ago. One advantage is that it is open on Sundays when a lot of restaurants around there are not. I thought the food was fine, price decent, and it is a beautiful setting. It's also very convenient to get to, and the Sunday issue. It's been there many many years, I don't know why people would think it is so bad. I suppose it's no Tour d'Argent, but neither are the prices. Nothing about it struck me as negative or unusually bad.

Hi grandmere,

I would go back for a drink in the very pretty bar...the food was not bad, just not worth a return for me. I will say that every table was filled when we were there, so my opinion must be in the minority!

We might give it a try since it is close to our hotel.
Thanks, everyone.

Same here. Beautiful setting (and staff who are incredibly nice to kids, just so you know - my daughter as usual wanted just a simple omelette w/frites and they were more than happy to oblige). Food nothing special. Good, but not a wow. But really pretty place.

And whoever it is who yaps about getting stuck on the main floor with all the Americans - ignore that if he/she comes along. They don't stick all the Americans anywhere. I've never been put on the main floor, nor has the main floor ever been all Americans when I've been there.

It's a great place for a Sunday night meal when so many other places are closed.

I booked the the main floor for the GTG and we were not all Americans :)I have heard that said about other restaurants and never found that to be true in my case.

Do they take reservations? We (two couples) would be going on a week night in Oct.

frenchwow Oct 1st, 2009 02:20 AM

yea You van reserve on line. It does fill up by 8:30. They did seat people without reservations up and down. We ate down is the upstairs prettier?
cou;ldn't get into Pappiles without a reservation-even at lunch!

I was there alone when it wasn't particularly crowded that I can recall, and I was on the main floor. So what? What's wrong with that, I liked it as you could sort of people watch out the big front window and the room is very big. I usually don't like being in upstairs rooms in restaurants, actually, they are usually more trouble to get to, much noisier due to enclosure, and you may not hve the same windows or views. The service I had was excellent. I suppose they might have guessed I was American, I don't know, as I speak French but with an accent (no one would mistake me for a native Parisian) and sometimes folks in France think I'm English or some other nationality than American, I don't know why. They can't place me.
