Boston to Tuscany- where should I fly into?
We are travelling to Tuscany/Cinque Terra for 10 days in Sept. and renting a car. Can anyone advise the easiest/most direct way to fly to Italy from Boston? We are going to start in Tuscany, go to Umbria, and end in Cinque Terra. Thanks

Hi C,
>..easiest/most direct way to fly to Italy from Boston?< Probably into Milan or Rome. However, if you want to visit Tuscany, see about flights into Florence FLR and Pisa PSA. ((I)) |
Alitalia flies BOS-MXP daily and BOS-FCO 5 times a week. Those are the only non-stop BOS-Italy flights I can find.
If you want to fly to FLR or PSA, then you need to connect somewhere in Europe. |
Hi.......Boston to Milan is the easiest...its about a 3 hour drive to Tuscany (Northern)...we are doing a similiar trip in September as well and got a decent deal on NWA...Boston to Amsterdam, quick change of planes right into Bologna. From Bologna we are driving to the Cinque Terra (less than 2 hours)....then to Umbria..and back to Bologna with the same return to Boston via Amsterdam...you will love the Cinque Terra and Tuscany...this is our first time to Umbria and Bologna...good luck...Mikek

I would look at Pisa via London.
Or, Milan direct and drive from there. |
These days, with the budget airlines, many options are possible that are not obvious. If prices of flights from BOS to MXP or other northern Italian airports (Bologna, Florence, Verona, Milano/Bergamo, Pisa) seem too high, look for flights from BOS to other major European hubs, and for European budget airlines from there to those Italian airports.
If a flight to London saves you three hundred dollars, and the budget airline costs only another 80 or so, plus airport transfers, you might come out ahead. Been known to happen. www.skyscanner.net is good for the latter. Be aware of more stringent luggage rules and of slow service on some of the budget carriers, and of the various secondary airports they use to be able to lower their fares. WK |
