Bordeaux: Short Excursions?
We're soon off to Bordeaux to attend the language school.
Lessons are mornings only and we're taking our own car down there. Can anyone recommend any particular nearby places we should visit that would be feasible for half day trips from Bordeaux? THANK YOU! |
Some of the Romanesque churches of the Caharente should be within your reach. Check out my Trip Report: Dordogne, Bordeaux, Chaumont, Paris.

Kavey: Longer drives ?.
Biarritz is a two hour drive, but definitely worth it. I am sure there must be a direct train, which would make this ?doable? in one afternoon/evening. You can?t miss Bayonne: It is the Chocolate capital of France and the gateway to the French Basque region. Its about a 90 min drive from Bordeaux; I did the drive a couple of months ago and it is very easy. Again, there are probably direct trains. Regards .. Ger |
Thanks!
Ger we do have one single weekend during which we'll do longer drives but I am keen to visit the cave paintings you reported on so eloquently and I know Pete would like to visit St Emilion area as he's a long time fan of the wines. 2 hours might be fine... THANKS both! |
Hi Kavey,
There are many wineries - Chateau Lafitte, Chateau Margaux, Pauillac, etc along the river. Also look up Arcachon and the Dune de Pilat - about 1hr by car. |
Thanks Ira
Can we visit these wineries for tasting and buying without appt or must we make appts first? Is there a recommended way to request appts, if they are required? THANKS |
