Bordeaux or Toulouse?

A friend and I who are 22 and 23 are backpacking through Europe and would like to make a stop between Paris and Madrid. We like wine tasting so Bordeaux sounds nice, but Toulouse seems to be a younger crowd like ourselves. Any suggestions for one or the other? We will probably spend 2 nights.
Thanx!

Hi L,

May I suggest adding one night to Paris and one to Madrid and flying between them?

toulouse is a much nicer and yes livelier city - large university - Bordeaux, like many French towns is totally dead at night - not so in Toulouse. So i'd go to Toulous and drink Bordeaux wine there!

We were in Toulouse on a drizzly Sat. night in very late Sept or early Oct. The streets, squares, & cafes were packed with people your age enjoying the evening - never seen anything like it!!!

Toulouse, no doubt. I did visit both cities end July, begining August. I was downtown Bordeaux a Sunday night and I was wondering if anybody lives in that town. The steets were empty. I was in Toulouse a Tuesday night and it was packed.

Good point PalQ.
