Bordeaux Bound !

We head to Bordeaux next month for our first visit and are very excited!

We are looking for some special spots for lunch where we can enjoy a more eclectic menu (not heavily sauced or rich) French cuisine.

We also plan on visiting some local wine bars after dinner.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

You won't find anything heavily sauced or rich in Bordeaux. Do you like lamprey? La Tupinada and Le Chabron are considered the "best" restaurants in Bordeaux. There are plenty of others, a few of them around the Place du Parlement.

I just eat traditional French food when in France, so I'm not sure what you are looking for, I guess some trendy nouvelle something. I rarely have anything heavily sauced, though, that just depends what you order mainly. NOt sure if you are calling traditional sole meuniere "heavily sauced" for example? Or a steak with a sauce bearnaise? If so, I don't know any other type of French restaurant there, but traditional.

However, I do know a good wine bar near my hotel, 15 cl pours are only 2-3 euro (even St Emilion is only about 3.5-4 euro for a small glass). I think it's a nice place.

Thank you both for the suggestions. The wine bar looks perfect and we will check it out.

I do not eat butter or cream, therefore no bearnaise or meuniere for me. When we are in France, I seem to exist on oysters, steak tartare and salads.

StCirq, I do enjoy lamprey and will research the restaurants you recommended. We are not looking for Michelin star restaurants, but rather bistros and casual restaurants.

For oysters check out La Boîte à Huitres.
