Family of five travelling from Roscoff to Carcassonne, looking for stopover accommodation around Bordeaux area of before it - has anyone any experience of convenient hotel or guest house near enough to motorway

What route are you planning to take? I don't have a map handy, but in my mind's eye Bordeaux would not be on the most direct route (which I believe would be through Poitiers and Limoges, e.g.). If you're thinking Bordeaux so you can travel along the coast, La Rochelle would be a prettier option.

Cool, ira....as I said I'm not near a map (on the Blackberry, and googling maps is a pain on the tiny screen), so was just doing it from memory.

Anyway, I think Michelin probably recommends it because it's autoroute all or most of the way, right? Not because it's the shortest distance between the two points.

Hi Sin,

Getting to the Chateau de Rocques will be about 0:25 hr longer than getting to Bordeaux.

Hi sinead; This is another suggestion in the Saint Emilion area. The incredible feeling about this b&b is that on leaving after three day's, we were like'family'. Lovely people. They only have a few rooms and one of them is considered a 'family room'. The breakfast was one of the best during our 22 days in France. Yup. It takes about 9 hr. The sightseeing route is 14+ hr.
