Bordeaux
Can't seem to find a city center Hotel in Bordeaux that has great reviews.
We would like a 3 or 4* We have never had his problem before. Last year we stayed at Hotel D'Europe in Avignon for a week and loved it. Much appreciated. |
I always stay at either the Etche-Ona or the Bayonne, owned by the same family, les Parinauds. Both are in the pedestrian center of the city, central to everything (including the huge underground parking lot, if that's an issue). The Etche-Ona is decorated in traditional Basque style - lots of heavy wood and carvings. The Bayonne is sleek and modern. I think both are 3***.

appreciate your feedback.
Do you prefer one over the other. Is there an advantage of one location over the other? For instance, can the Cab reach either Hotel? Which is closer to "great food"? Would also appreciate knowing the best Restaurants, as we are foodies. Don't expect 3* but what is the best available? Also for typical regional food, what would you suggest? |
We stayed at Hotel d'Europe in 2008. Bordeaux city doesn't have any hotels to rival it. We stayed outside the city at Sources de Caudalie; I would recommend it strongly but only if you'll have a car. Actually, I would recommend having a car to make the most of the area, assuming this is a leisure trip.
For food in the city, we enjoyed 2 of Bordeaux's institutions: La Tupina and Le Chapon Fin. The former is casual with outdoor seating and a fireplace rotisserie. We had a memorable lunch there that lasted close to 3 hours. Le Chapon Fin is (or was 2 years ago when we were there) Michelin starred elegant dining. Many courses, many wines. Have a great trip. |
Hello Erly:
You may wish to check out the hotel Burdigala: http://www.burdigala.com/ It's a four star in the Centre with a tram stop nearby and reasonably close to everything. We spent 5 days there a few years ago and found the accomodations and staff very much to our liking. The Concierge was able to arrange personal tours at several major vineyards. Good breakfast and nice bar. Like Josh, we had a 3+ hour lunch at La Tupina; great stuff. Good luck. Gradyghost |
I checked out the Etche-Ona and the Bayonne, and neither is listed.
There is a Best Western Bayonne Etche-Ona listed. There is a Tulip Etche-Ona listed, but no Independents after much googling. The Burdigala sounds and looks good, but we are determined to stay city center. Any other suggestions would be apporeciated, or if anyone knows why I can't find further info. on the hotels suggested above. Thanks |
It's the Best Western Bayonne Etche-Ona. Looks as though they maybe merged the two hotels.
