I am reading Reginald Hill's The Stranger House, set in Cumbria. A very good mystery/novel.
For London, Penelope Lively's City of the Mind

Elizabeth George for England. Pretty good detecting and excellent insight into multi-levels of British Society.

For Ireland, Bill Watkins's "A Celtic Childhood," his memories of growing up relatively poor in England and Ireland after World War II. It's fascinating and often hilarious.

I agree about Saturday, but whilst I read all of Elizabet George's stuff, the sociology is total fantasy

As mentioned, Pete McCarthy's book, McCarthy's Bar is a good read and he spends a great deal of time in the SW so it may be of particular interest to you. It's hysterically funny at times, with "scenic" writing at other times. Give it a try.

I didn't care for Pete McCarthy but I loved Tony Hawkes's 'Round Ireland with a Fridge'.

Some people are a bit put off by his (McCarthy's) shots at tourists and tourism. Though I didn't agree with everything he said, it was a good read with a lot of valuable information. As I remember, his language may have been a bit colorful too. His descriptions of the areas are superior to Hawk's IMO. Both are good.
