I must heartily agree about "Dear Francesca". It is superb.

And mary Contini is presently one of the V&C owners and her daughter Francesca has just opened a new cafe bar in George Street Edinburgh called Vin Caffe; it's getting rave reviews, but I haven't been yet.

Sheila, the V&C Vin Caffe, which as you correctly say is run by Francesca Contini, is on Multrees Walk. Centotre, which is owned by Victor & Carina Contini & opened about a year ago, is on George Street (103 !) & is vg.

I'm becoming a bit of numpty in Edinburgh issues, amn't I?

Have you read the book, Caroline?

caroline_edinburgh Feb 7th, 2005 01:11 AM

Sheila, not at all ! You know a lot more about Edinburgh things than most peple who live here, I'm sure !

I got 'Dear Francesca' for Xmas a year or two ago but I'm afraid it is still on the 'to read' shelf.

I couldn't put it down. It's more like a novel than a cook book

Thanks for the recommendation, Sheila - must get round to it.

It's difficult not to hate someone who leaves university & gets given a restaurant, though, isn't it ? :-)
