Booking Ferries - What's the situation in peiraus?

Hello,

I am from the US and I plan to visit the Greek Islands in June. I would like to know, since I will be coming to ATH, and travel by ship, what's the situation in Peiaeus? I read that it is occupied by refugees. Should I look into other options for visiting Crete.
Also, I see a lot of ships to Crete.

Should I wait to book my tickets, or can I book now and get the best price?

Thanks a lot!

You don't need to worry about refugees near the ferry docks, but if you are going to Crete first, think about a flight. If you are working your way through the Cyclades to Crete, then a ferry would be a good option.

Ferry tickets have fixed prices, and don't change according to when you book. If you are travelling in June you don't need to prebook at all, just buy the tickets when you get to Greece.

Flights to Chania take less than an hour, and leave several times each day. If you decide to fly, book your flight now.
