Bookchick question
Good evening, Bookchick! I read your mention of printing out a list of the fast food places from pagesjaunes. Though I've tried, I can't get to that selection on their website.
Resorting to burgers, fries, and a Coke now and then while in Paris may seem a sacrilege to some, but for a quick family meal at a reasonable price, eating at McDonald's or the similar French chains does help the troops save money for other pursuits. I have noticed, though, that a request for a customized burger "your way" seems to cause quite a delay. Would you mind guiding me through the appropriate entries to make on pagesjaunes? Or, would you email your own list to me at [email protected]? My wallet, my grandkids, and I would greatly appreciate either form of help. |
I don't know what bookchick said, but if you want to list fast food places from pagesjaunes, you would type in "restauration rapide" in the activite box. I don't think you need a list, though, as you'll probably just see some around where you are, anyway. The European version is named Quick, which is really Belgian, I believe. I thought it was worse than McDonalds the one time I had something there.
There are three McDonalds I know of in the central area -- one on bd St Germain near the Cluny museum, one at the corner of rue Soufflot across from Luxembourg Gardens, and the other on the north side of the Champs Elysees not too far from the Arc. I know there is a McDonalds at Place d'Italie and one on bd Port Royal to the west of Gobelins metro, also, and one around Les Halles. If you really want a list, I bet McDonalds has a website with addresses. If you want a list of them from pagesjaunes, just type in that name in the "nom" box, with paris in the city box. There is a trick to that, you have to put a space between the mc and donalds. (I think it is Burger King that has the "your way" slogan, not McDonalds. There used to be Burger Kings in Paris, but I think they closed them all some years ago as I haven't seen one in ages). There are plenty of places as cheap as McDonalds, or takeout delis, etc, with sandwiches, quiches and other food, but they might not have sit-down space. McDonalds probably is cheaper than a cafe, though, somewhat. I think the takeout/cafeteria on the Champs Elysees on the south side is better than McDonalds. The McDonalds are sometimes really really crowded. |
Madame - I may be wrong, but I think you're referring to a post from "Beatchick", not "Bookchick".
|
you are right. It sounds more like beat chick who loves Paris.
Bookchick loves Italy... :) Both great persons! |
Good grief, Iregeo! You're right! It WAS Beatchick, not Bookchick!
I'd be in despair, but Christina came to the rescue of the clueless and the list is printing as I write this. Quite a list it is, too. Who knew there'd be four pages of McDonalds in Paris? Or a page and a half of Quick locations? Thank you both and you, too, Cigalechanta, for responding to my misdirected question. |
As an aside, we also tried the French version of McDonalds. I don't remember what it was called, but I'm sure you have/will see it. My daughter and I really liked the deep fried broccoli & cheese bites.

Be of good cheer, Croque Madame:
http://www.mcdonalds.fr/ Make mine a Croque McDo Chevre/Salade - with a beer, of course. McDo's locations helpfully listed on site, too! HTH |
Hi Croque_Madame, I just saw your post! Am sending the spreadsheet to you right now. I agree that normally one wouldn't go to this much trouble but when you have kids tagging along it makes it easier to say that you can to such & such place very quickly that happens to be close by!
If anyone else would like to see I'd be happy to e-mail it. I also compiled listings of crepe vendors in the different parts of Paris based on what Fodorites have posted here. Christine, I think I even got the suggestion for the one at the Jardin du Luxembourg from YOU! Thank you, Cigalechanta, my singing cricket friend!! You are much too kind. And I certainly don't mind being confused with Miss Bookchick, she's one of my favorite people on the planet. Croque_Madame, when do you get to go to Paris? And how many of you are going, if you don't mind my asking? You can e-mail that privately to me if you'd rather. Mmmm, Wsoxrebel, that sounds good. |
Where have you been hiding, Beatchick? Haven't seen you around in eons!!
|
Am a fan of McDonalds only for their Oranginas with lots of ice--can't beat it when it's hot! Just FYI -- in the 9th when you surface at metro CADET the McDonald's is right there, no walk necessary.
And thanks Christina. I had tried to locate MdDs via lespages jaunes w/o success. Now I know why! |
C_M, I just e-mailed the list to you - thought I e-mailed it last night as an attachment? Sorry 'bout that!
Hey Jojo!! I've just been so busy. I just finished up school & an internship. I'm studying for a certification exam - hopefully, I'll be able to come up for air soon. :) |
Hi
Just wondering, is McDo's still so cheap relatively speaking, in Paris? Last time I looked at the prices, admittedly a couple of years ago, it seemed to me to not be much cheaper if at all, than an inexpensive crepes or sandwich place. You might also think about a picnic (outdoors, or in your hotel or apartment--pack your own paper plates and plastic utensils in your checked luggage.) The prices on Cokes are a killer all over Paris. |
Oh, lord yes, Elaine. I had a Coke one trip while up in Montmartre at a touristy cafe facing the carrousel at the base of the steps going up to Sacre Couer. Coke was $6!! I almost had a heart attack. Never, ever again. It was also the very WORST meal I'd ever had in Paris. Le Ronsard (place St-Pierre) was the name of the place - horrid, horrid. We ordered Poulet Roti, after all how bad can rotisserie chicken be? It tasted as if the chicken had gone bad & then they tried to disguise the taste by roasting the bird to the point of sawdust-consistency dryness. The ketchup they brought to us was sour. Yek. I learned my lesson in places like those.

McDonalds is probably not cheaper than a street corner crepe stand, but I don't like crepes much and don't like eating on the street. Most of those crepes seems to be sugary sweet things that I've seen on the street. Just my choice, I would rather sit down and not have crepes.
It is still relatively cheap, and you may get a restroom (other thread) and a place to sit a while. Actually there are a couple McDonalds that they managed to make fairly attractive in some neighborhoods (the one near Gobelins metro isn't too bad). They are still cheaper than cafes for drinks, which is what I use them for -- some cold bottled water or quick coffee. I do actually like their ice cream sundaes, also. A French version of a cheap drinks place and some sandwich/dessert stuff which is like a real cheap cafe is Ca, Ira! just on the west side of place de la Bastille. It has a real young clientele (many teens) because of that but is fine if you just want drinks, mainly; the tables aren't as nice as a regular cafe, of course, but that goes with the idea. I've stopped in there several times when around there. |
My teenager loves Quick even though I don't see much difference between it and McD's. I succumb so that I can have their largest size Coke with ice!
Croque Madame, if you are looking to save a few bucks on softdrinks, my son and I pick up a litre bottle of our favorite soda at any grocery or convenience store and carry it in our bag. Of course, this necessitates drinking it at room temp, but we have gotten used to it. We both think France has the best selection of soft drinks! My son is sitting here craving a Kaz lemonade, and I am dreaming of Virgin Green Apple soda! Yum! |
Crepes: I know what you mean about the soft drinks in Paris. Christmas week last year, it was cold enough for us to leave our bottles of Orangina out on the balcony and, when we returned to the hotel each evening, we enjoyed a really COLD drink even without ice cubes.
On my first visit to Paris, I discovered the delights of Orangina. Obsessively lugged home a suitcase weighed down with 20 little bottles of the stuff, only to find it for sale at my usual grocery store the next year. There are now several stores in the Florida college town where I live that carry Orangina, so I've got a steady supply. The last time, we did bring home two new (to us, anyway) flavors of Orangina: lime and pink grapefruit. The lime's so tart, I pucker up just thinking about it. I'll give your two brands a try in October! Beatchick: I just sent a reply to your email. Thanks a lot! |
C_M! Got it - thanks!
Christina, thanks for the recommendation - I just added it to my list. :) |
