Bon voyage to a fellow member of the Inner Circle. Have a glass or two of Champagne (or a whole bottle, sweetie) and toast yourself for being a survivor.

To Capo's quotes, I add BC's own post :

_______________________________________
Message: Rome is not a city; it is an attitude. It is contrasts--bustling, busy and quiet and reflective all at the same time.

Its treasures lie within the little picnic you have in the Parco Borghese, the fountain you see that is your favorite, the reverence and to beauty of all kinds and to art of all kinds--that includes culinary arts. Although the Romans have mastered efficiencies of various kinds, they realize that living itself is an art, and should be relished and savored, not rushed through.

The masterpieces of Rome are in St. Peter's Basilica, the Borghese Gallery, and the Gelateria of San Crispino. They lie within the cobblestones of the very streets, and the plane trees lining the Tiber.

I have never failed to visit Rome and find a sense of inner peace there. It cannot be explained, it must simply be experienced.

Ciao, Bella!
BC

I love the posts about Rome as a city.
Bookchick, I'm so glad you are getting to travel after such a difficult year or so.

Another quote, also from Stendahl about Italians, in de Terán's book...

"It is their manners as a whole, their natural ways, bonhomie, the great art of being happy, which is here practised with this added charm, that the good people do not know it is an art, the most difficult of all."

And, on Rome...

"Rome is beautiful, wonderful." -- Ibsen

"Rome is the most glorious place in the universal world." -- Robert Adam (1755)

Bookchick: congratulations and blessings. If you happen to be close to the Pantheon, could you stop at the Church of Santa Maria Sopra Minerva and light a candle for me?

Bookchick, have a wonderful time in the UK and especially in Italy! After dealing with all the difficult times that life may bring to us, we experience our most loved places with a new and fresh look. I hope your trip brings to you the feeling of comfort of those places and people you know so well, but also the excitement of a new adventure. Have a fabulous trip!

From capos quote...." It is their manners as a whole, their natural ways, bonhomie, the great art of being happy,".....
I think that one of the reasons that BookChick loves Italy and I am sure they love her, is that she has that natural great art of being happy, her natural bonhomie...BC, you deserve everything that is good~
