Thanks everyone! I bought Angels and Demons to start with. All of these suggestions are great though! I wish I had a g.card for Borders right about now!

Another vote for Munthe's The Story of San Michele.
I just bought H.V. Morton's A Traveller in Rome to give to a friend this weekend; I've not read it, but has great reviews as much more than a travel guide. "Evocative of La Dolce Vita" in Rome, during the 50 ies. It was out of print for a while but has recently been printed again. It sounds very good. Check it out on Amazon.

jck4, read "I Love Capri" by Belinda Jones. It is light reading, I think fictional, takes place on Capri.
