Maybe lots of you already know about this book, but someone just gave it to me. It is a memoir of a middle-aged American chef who fell in love with a Venetian; she then moved to Venice and married him.

This book evokes Venice so wonderfully that I keep skipping ahead to see what's next. On the one hand, I don't think she's Tolstoy as a writer, but on the other hand, she's done something right by grabbing my interest and enhancing it on every page. Those of you who are Venice-lovers will smile to yourself as she describes locations and restaurants you will recognize, among the perhaps overly-literary prose about her romance.

Great travel book, in an usual way.

Hi, I just returned from a trip to Italy which ended with 4 days in Venice. I picked up this book just before I began the trip and read it while in Italy. She has a way with storytelling and I loved it. What fun to read about someone who has actually done what I only dream about. Live for a time in Venice!!!

Yes, this is my absolute favorite "American woman in Italy" book! Her love story is not the usual cliche, but is a happily ever after fairytale nonetheless. Her story has actually inspired me in my own situation...

I also read this book (recommendation from this board) after my trip to Venice. Wish I had read it before going & ventured to Lido while I was there.

If you go to Amazon.com and put in the title, you can read like 18 pages of the book. Then I ran out and bought it and really enjoyed it!
