Book on Opening a B&B in Italy?

Does anyone know of any good books on opening up a B&B in Italy? Also, does anyone know - do Relais & Chateau own their resorts or is Relais just a quality rating?
Thinking about a life change...

Relais & Chateaux is an association that sets extremely high standards for admission; it does not own the member establishments. Unless you have extremely deep pockets, I think you might be indulging in very wishful thinking to hope that a B&B that you open would qualify for admission.

Hi sinn,

Are you a citizen of Italy?

If not, get a good notary.

My inlaws bought a B&B abut 12 years ago when they were looking for a "life change". They will both tell you that it is the hardest work they ever did. Having a B&B is like having house guests 24/7. You are on duty all the time even if you can make enough money to employ others to assist. I suggest that you get to know the owners of a B&B near you, and ask if you can volunteer with them to learn the business. Once you understand their business, ask them if they will let you run their b&b for a few days so they can take a break. If after running one, you still want to pursue this idea, you will at least know what you are getting yourself into...good luck!

I don't know specifically about Italy, but there are many books available about owning and operating B&Bs. You may want to check one of those out first, as I don't know if you will find one specifically on Italy or not. Have you checked amazon.com or other online bookstores?

Go to slowtrav.com and look at the ex-pat section. Several have done just that. A ton of legalities.
