Coming down to the end of my obsession about how to fly to France in September from New York area.
If we book Delta/AirFrance Premium Economy from JFK to CDG in Paris, does it make any difference if I book the flight on Delta or on Air France?

What, if any, would be the differences in treatment, priority, anything??

you will need to check out which airlines gives you more points. there IS a difference many times on partners as I sadly found out on a long trip to Dubai.. NO POINTS at all through AF on my delta card.

It's easier to make an advance seat selection when booking through Delta.

Oh, that is very good to know, theflock, thanks, and also lincasanova, I might as well book thru Delta, cuz even though I don't have many points I can always collect a few more!

You may or may not collect more.. just need to be aware that SOMEtimes there are no points to accrue on partners. However, that said, I do not if/how many we would have accrued on delta.?

We've flown both several times and just prefer Air France. On the last Delta flight flight we took to Europe, the cramped coach seats seemed even closer together.

On Air France we feel that we are already in France the minute we get on the plane. The service, the baguettes----oooh la-la! Delta just seems like another cattle-call.

Doesn't it depend on price though?

If you book on Delta using your skymiles account # you get Delta miles (regardless of who flies the plane) If you book on AF in a "low fare" class using your Skymiles # you might not get milage credit (once again regardless of who flies the plane)

If the "miles" are important you might ask on Flyertalk.com I somehow expect that you get Skymiles if you do premium economy since I am not sure it sells for the cheap seat pricing But I am not sure as I haven't really looked into it, but probably someone on www.flyertalk.com in the Delta forum has!

Speaking of wine, on our flight last month on Air France, we got an aperitif, wine with dinner AND a digestif - and we were in coach! Now, I remember that from a long time ago, but I had thought the little extras were long gone. It was a pleasant surprise - almost civilized. ;-)

I think it just depends on which program you use for points. I have not had any trouble making advance seat selections using Air France.

Is it the same flight, but you can book through either AirFrance or Delta? Codeshare, I think it's called? And it's non-stop, yes? If that's the case, I think you'll get exactly the same treatment onboard no matter which airline's logo is on your ticket. If you have frequent flyer points with one or the other, book with them. If not, then whichever one is slightly cheaper, or has better luggage fee rules. If they're completely equal, I say book with AF just for them romance.

I will say, however, that I booked my upcoming flights through AirFrance, but since I'm coming from a smaller SoCal airport and have a layover, some of the flights are operated by Delta, in partnership with AF. When Delta's computer screwed up my first flight, leaving me with a 40 minute layover before my international flight, AF wasn't able to do anything to help me, I had to deal with Delta directly. They fixed it after two separate tries, but at this point I might as well have booked with Delta.

I fly Delta/Air France all the time..codeshare...one is as bad as the other as far as I am concerned! If you book Delta they only request seats from A/F and they will not show on Delta site or they may tell you they cannot give you seats. All you have to do is call A/F and tell them the flight and get your seat from them. I just looked at my April/May flights..both are operated by A/F, booked thru Delta. I have Delta # and if booked thru A/F you would have /A/F #. I fly out of ATL via a shuttle from Asheville.

Our FF miles are with Delta and we try to book Air France through Delta. I've always been able to contact AF and get seat assignments.
Our problem currently is that we are not accruing miles using our Delta Amex anymore (better deal elsewhere) so are looking to buydown airfare with miles for a future trip and, unfortunately, that can only be done flying on Delta flights. Bummer

Are you sure that the price is the same on both airlines?

I have found large differences (more than $100) between code-share airlines, on the same flight.

I've found some price differences on codeshares, also, and usually Air France is cheaper. But you should always compare. It's not a big difference, but it can be different.

That's an Air France flight.

You don't wear tags on board so they have no way of knowing how you booked once you get in the airplane. I don't know what the question about priority means in the OP.

The only thing I have heard about and I have no idea if it is true since I only book AF is some folks booking through Delta on AF flights say they have some problems getting proper seat assignments.

I book on Delta from L.A. to CDG. The flight is on Air France planes. It's non-stop and the price on either website is the same. As for seats, I book them online and have always gotten what I have booked. I recently called Air France to make sure all was in order and it was. Happy Travels!
