Bon Voyage, rex

You mentioned in another thread that you will be in the Loire Valley next week so think of us (for just a moment) and enjoy a glass of Pineau des Charentes.

I am quite worried about the new posters who will be using vague headings as you will not be around to provide your excellent instructions, but I suppose they and we will have to muddle through.
:)
Bon Voyage

Hi Rex. Wish you a great trip and wonderful weather. But heck, even if it rains who cares.

Rex, my very best wishes to you and your wife for a beautiful and fun trip. I have read with interest and admiration how you finacially organized this time in France. A lesson for all of us. I for one will so look forward to reading your trip report. Enjoy every moment, and I agree, we will miss you and your good advice.

rex, I for one would be interested in seeing your itinerary, if you'd care to share it.

Flyboy May 22nd, 2005 06:37 AM

Methinks Rex must have shoved off already or we would have heard something by now. (I'll let you know if I spot him on my way through CDG next weekend). :)

rex May 22nd, 2005 11:28 AM

Wow... thanks for all the good wishes - - and no, we don't leave until Thursday.

My itinerary, elaine, is more or less the last post on this thread: http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34617502

I've had the weekend off (and tomorrow) - - and I actually DO have some other things I do! (two graduating nieces, having parties this weekend, for one thing)...

But true to the "go non-stop" theme of this upcoming trip - - I am on ("in house") call Tuesday and Wednesday night (i.e., until 8 am, the day of departure) and then again the first two nights back home (not the night we arrive in the US - - the next night and the night after that.

I'll be catching up on rest again, on June 5!...LOL!

Thanks again for all the bon voyage warm sentiments... and...

Best wishes,

Rex

sounds wonderful, are you spending any time in Paris at the end, or just flying home?

I'm jealous of the whole trip, particularly Bilbao.

Underhill May 22nd, 2005 05:47 PM

Good luck with those couchettes, Rex! And have a marvelous trip.

rex May 22nd, 2005 05:50 PM

We're going to seek out left luggage, a place to freshen up (seems there are showers at both Gare Austerlit and Gare de Lyon), walk in search of breakfast, and hopefully, maybe see one thing - - Sainte Chapelle? (but it doesn't open until ten) - - before heading back to catch the Air France bus (at Gare de Lyon) around 10:45 or 11.

There were two threads seeking advice on this...

oh, yes, at the time when you were seeking advice about your few hours in Paris, I didn't realize that was at the tail end of your trip.

LarryJ May 23rd, 2005 03:30 AM

Rex,

Hope your trip is the best one yet. Keep in touch while traveling if you have the time.

SuzieC May 23rd, 2005 06:24 AM

Bon Voyage Rex... aaah the romance!

grandmere May 23rd, 2005 06:46 AM

Have a great trip!

rex May 23rd, 2005 07:17 AM

Thanks again to the continuing profusion of goodbyes!

And to LarryJ...

<<Hope your trip is the best one yet.>>

I'm thinking that I don't want to set an ever-higher bar for us/myself with each successive trip! With (hopefully) another 25 trips left in my future!

So, I'll rephrase your sentiments to suit my expectations for us... to... "Hope your trip is the best one this month"!

LOL...

;)

Tiff May 23rd, 2005 07:54 AM

I hope you and your wife have a lovely trip, Rex.

Safe journey, T.

elle May 23rd, 2005 09:37 AM

Hope your trip is terrific, Rex. I am in awe of your ability to mobilize so quickly in light of a deal!

rex May 23rd, 2005 02:44 PM

Thanks, T, elle...

I/we mobilized quickly because of pent-up "plan-itis". We didn't make it to Europe at all in 2004, due to spending something like 10-20 "trips worth" (if the cost of a "trip" is $1000-2000 per person, excluding the "cost" of lost income) - - on our first daughter's wedding. And with another daughter getting married in 2006, we have struggled to figure out how/when we would fit a trip in somewhere/sometime this year...

So, my wife has been saying, repeatedly, we just have to think about some kind of shorter trip... (like a lot of self-employed people, the income loss can be quite a bit more expensive than the cost of the trip itself)

...and so, when this phenomenally low fare came along, I felt like I hardly had to think about it - - putting it over the Memorial Day weekend (when I wasn't scheduled to work anyhow) was a big help to both of our schedules.

It's about being willing/prepared to fit in a short trip when even a hint of an opportunity appeared on the horizon.

hopingtotravel May 23rd, 2005 02:50 PM

Rex, that's a great planning idea. I'll tell my husband he needs to be more flexible. I've enjoyed reading your posts for around 5 years now. Will look forward to a trip report. The area you're going sounds especially intriguing.
