Elaine, you're not going to believe this, but one of my travel companions is sick too!! My stepmom has the flu, and we're leaving Saturday!! The doctor says she s/b OK by then. Dad will be sitting right next to her, but I will be in the row just behind them. I can't change seats because the plane is already sold out. I doubt anyone will trade seats with me if I tell them I don't want to sit near someone with the flu. So I'm stuck. Let's hope for the best for our companions....

Tavelling on an airplane with a cold has to be one of life's most miserable experiences!! I once flew to Paris with a cold, and I thought my sinuses were going to explode. Thankfully, there was a pint of gin in my carry-on. Pills and gin will get you through anything, sweetie. At least that is what Jacqueline Susann always said.

elaine Jan 10th, 2005 12:42 PM

John,I would have thought that Jackie S would have included sex in that triad, but maybe you were offering the PG version. Or, maybe the gin IS most important.
:-))

I know it seems very tacky for me to be the one to revive this thread, but my TC read this thread and has insisted that I tell you that she is recovering from the cold and if I get sick it will not be her fault. She also refuses to take the rap for ALL the pastry stops.
thanks all
:)

Glad you have recovered TC. You have me salivating at the thought of a Hermé's Macaron. Bon voyage ladies. I wish you good weather.

elaine Jan 11th, 2005 01:13 PM

I just checked the forecast at
accuweather.com and it looks to be dry and not too cold which I'm very pleased about.
I checked several weather websites because there are always variations--the bbc site is the only one with unpleasant predictions, so I'm choosing to ignore it.

111op Jan 11th, 2005 01:20 PM

What are the weather predictions?

P_M Jan 11th, 2005 01:24 PM

111op, check this out:

Bon voyage, Elaine! Eat lots of chocolate! I can't wait to hear about your trip.

barbmike Jan 11th, 2005 01:26 PM

To the ELITE poster on the board. Have a Great Trip!!! Mike

111op Jan 11th, 2005 01:28 PM

Thanks P_M. I'm doing enough web searches already so it was nice to have your link available (which was why I asked).

I'm getting more excited myself, as I just bought tickets for a piano recital at Theatre des Champs-Elysees.

i_am_kane Jan 11th, 2005 01:43 PM

Elaine, Wishing you a wonderful trip. You lucky girl!

By the way, are you flying out of a New York airport? The weather right now is getting very nasty, and it's supposed to continue throughout the night. LGA and EWR are experiencing departure delays, but JFK is on-time.

I sincerely hope the weather clears up for your departure.

I am looking forward to your trip report. Bon Voyage.

cigalechanta Jan 11th, 2005 02:07 PM

111op, I forgot to wish you also, I bon voyage and hope you three will meet up.

111op Jan 11th, 2005 02:30 PM

Thanks cigale!

I don't think that I'll be able to meet on Sunday, as my current plan is to see Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye in the morning. But if I can't get up early on Sunday, I may find myself in the Marais instead. Anyway, it seems a lot of trouble to go to Poissy to see a building, but it's something different to do for a change. It's nice to see the real thing after seeing the scaled model in MoMA (in NYC).

P_M Jan 11th, 2005 03:19 PM

I will be arriving Sunday, so I don't know if I can make the Marais walk. But if my plane arrives on time I will do my best. I sent my Dad a link to the Paris Walks website Elaine provided to me, so hopefully I can talk him into that instead of rushing to see the Eiffel Tower first thing.

Bon Voyage all, and I hope to see you there.

One more day, elaine :D

I am so glad to read that TC is feeling better. Nothing more miserable than flying with a cold ( as John says, gin or Bloody Marys do help) but landing can be agony .. so I am happy for you both that she is on the mend.
Take that Airbourne stuff with you to ward off colds, or as my dear Yankee advised me once when a man behind me kept sneezing, just hold your breath !

Take care, have fun, I look forward to reading all about it when you get back..I will add your notes to mine at that time :)
((F)) Scarlett

elaine Jan 11th, 2005 05:23 PM

thanks Scarlett
I was so obsessed about catching the cold from TC, (as if that's the only source of infection I'll run into) you mean I was supposed to feel concern about how miserable she might feel on the plane if she were feeling poorly?
:)

Scarlett Jan 11th, 2005 05:35 PM

LOL,
I am sure you would have been kind and solicitous ~ while holding your breath :D

PJI Jan 11th, 2005 11:48 PM

I can't belive it! I have also come down with a cold and am heading to the Dr. in an hour to hopefully get some drugs. (I called this am and begged for them to squeeze me in) I don't want to wait since we only have one more day to go. I will not let this cold ruin our first trip to Paris. Hopefully it will clear up fast.

elaine Jan 12th, 2005 09:21 AM

oh no!
Hope you feel better in a hurry!
