Bomb blasts in Turkey tonight
Just watching Sky News where they report 3 explosions in Marmaris tonight. Twenty two people reported injured and hospitalised, ten of them British.
Also reports of another bomb blast in Istanbul and one reported but unconfirmed in Icmeler.
Thoughts and prayers with all involved.

There was another bomb in Anatalya today, the work of Kurdish extremists apparently. The fact that Turkay has agreed to contribute to the UN force in Lebanon may give other extremists an excuse to attack. We leave for Istanbul on Friday and will definitely be very watchful and careful.

my friend and I have a trip booked to Turkey - visiting Istanbul, Cappadocia, and Ephesus in early 2007. Because of the continued bombings, we have reservations about going now. I know it's impossible to predict what will happen on any trip, but is it just too unsafe to go right now?

It never ceases to amaze how irrational people are. You have a far far better chance of being killed in an auto accident at home than of being killed by a terrorist attack. If I'm going to Turkey, the terrorist attacks are great news. The idiots will stay home and I'll get everything dirt cheap.

Well I certainly feel that everyone has the right to make decisions that are the most comfortable for them. And although I have also heard frightening news right before trips I have never cancelled one and so far I have not had a problem thank goodness.
And I agree that bad stuff can happen anywhere. Just this morning some maniac hit and run driver drove around SF and purposely ran into nine pedestrians (basically on California St). The SFPD fortunatly have him in custody. And our I-80 here has constant terrible vehicle accidents with many deaths.
But to call people "idiots" because the don't care to go someplace where they are not going to feel comfortable and relaxed is what is idiotic along with meanspirited and just plain rude in my opinion.

And on top of that LoveItaly, I just left a thread about clothes I think where the same poster again called someone an idiot. Besides rude, mean, and idiotic, how about adding "one note" to the list?
I hope everyone has a safe trip to Turkey.

You have a far better chance of being killed in a traffic accident in Turkey than either by a traffic accident in the USA or a terrorist attack in Turkey. Of course the potential for terrorist attacks in Turkey seems quite high at the moment, added to the high traffic death rates (about 5 times higher than the EU and USA), makes it much riskier than the USA at the moment. But the traffic death rates far outweigh the terrorism death rates.
Of course, no one knows when terrorist attacks in the USA will heat up.
