Bolzano to Annecy which route?
 

We're beginning in Geneva then onto Chamonix, Lake Como, Engadine and Dolomites. When I checked mappy and via michelin for a suggested route from Bolzano to Annecy (before leaving from Geneva) they said head south toward Verona and toward Milan and west. Is this the best route? Is 6 hours an accurate measurement?

If you just plug in "Bolzano to Annecy" you do come up with that +6 hour route through Verona.

Maybe I just don't get the order of towns you[re visiting, but .... Why not visit Annecy first after leaving Geneva along with Chamonix before you head towards Lake Como? Then you would not have to double back to Annecy at the end, as your post suggests you are doing.

Klondike-Instead of ending our trip with a 6 hour drive I thought a day at Anncey would be a nice final day.

Should we do it in 1 day or a period of 2 days?

That route is not a pleasant one - autostrada most of the way. It was heavy traffic the times I've driven it, especially in the Milan area. It could taken you considerably more than 6 hours.

You could go by way of Sondrio, much more scenic, and reach Lake Como in about 5 hours - but you'll have already been there earlier in your trip, but maybe spend a night there.

Then, you could reach Annecy via Domodossola and Switzerland in about 7 hours - very scenic.

Tuck-7 hrs total right...not 5 plus 7?

5 + 7 - Two days.

ViaMichelin says 6 hours - I say it'll be more. It's a stressful all day drive. You've got that Mont Blanc tunnel too - yech!

ViaMichelin also says the cost is 123.83 EUR.

Tuck-What is bad about the Mont Blanc tunnel? What is the toll for it? We would be driving on a Monday and Tuesday. Would it still not be advisable to take the 6 hour plus hwy routing? So the 7 plus 5 hour routing is more scenic and less stressful? Thank-you

The tunnel? 12km (7 or 8 miles), lots of big trucks. It was closed for several years after a big (and fatal) fire. 35€.

The direct drive will be a tiresome and dull full day. With the other option, the idea would be to have an enjoyable two days.
